Where are the good places to find groceries in North Philly? I am moving from way out west and am not familiar with what chains are good or where they are located...

What specifically do you refer to as North Philly? There are a few variations of the geographic boundaries.

Broad and Girard. As for whether I will be walking, driving or taking Septa? All of the above. I don't care if I have to travel into center city or whatever, I just don't know where the decent stores are...

The Reading Terminal Market is a great place to shop. there's validated parking for $4 and is also accessible via SEPTA. It's an old school market with lots of separate vendors from amish selling lancaster county produce to fair food farm stand to butchers selling everything from dry aged to cheap chuck. there are two cheese places, local produce, cheap produce, cookies, bakeries, etc. IMI, that's the best place to shop. there are two supermarkets, whole foods and super fresh, across form each other at tenth and south which makes it convenient to hit both of those stores. there's a target at castor near aramingo. in the other thread, I listed several places within walking distance, such as they are. there's another whole foods at 20th and callowhill. there's a nice acme down at 11th and passyunk. the Italian Market sells specialty products and also is pretty cheap, 9th st roughly from christian to washington ave.

A Fresh Grocer is opening(or maybe has opened?) next door to LaSalle U in North Philly - near Broad and Olney.

Cousins off of 5th and Norristown I think too. I've heard that market is not safe for many because of racism though

5th and norristown? racism? I've been to the cousin's at 2nd and lehigh, it's not the nicest store in the world, but it's cheap, and reasonably clean (if old).
