I live in South Philly, have been since 2007. I work a bit less than 2 miles from where I live, so I either bike or walk to work.
I have a Philly Car Share account that I've used twice. It's worth the 15 bucks a month, though, if something were to come up.There are 2 pods in walking distance of where we live.
I am older, though, have a 12 yo son. We use SEPTA on occasion, too....my son uses it about once a week, I use it on average every 2 weeks.
There's a lot to do for a young person, I'd think. Mind, I'm old, (47) so I wouldn't know exactly what, but there's a lot to do in walking or biking distance.

I also agree on Fishtown - the burbs of No Libs - but easy access to most of CC via the El and many things in waking distance

Bella Visat or Graduate Hosp area may be other options - good transit and a little closer to CC

The few times we have used a cab, they had one of those machines for credit/debit cards. I thought they had to accept them?
I've always had cash, though, just to play it safe. We've used a cab a few times to go to 30th St. Station (for day trips to NYC and Washington, DC).

Are you using Megabus or Bolt?

Even though they have the credit card machine they will say things like-"It's broken"

D/K what either Megabus or Bolt are....sorry. Are they bus lines?
We used Amtrak. This was last summer, during my kid's summer vacation.

Yes, both bus lines. Much cheaper than Amtrak and very new clean buses. They leave from 30th Street (Only Mega goes to D.C. Both go to NYC.) You have to buy tickets online and seats are guaranteed.

Thanks for the info...

I was in Philly a few months ago and the cab was really cheap compared to where I live now. In Philly on New Year’s Eve, three of us got across the city for like $7. Here on Long Island three of us were charged $40 to go 5 miles down one road.

As far as the dating, I don’t think a car is necessary to date in a city. Come on how romantic is a stroll through the city? Am I wrong? But I would love to find a cool girl who would be into getting sweaty and biking around.

I haven’t heard of this car share that was mentioned. Its only $15 a month? That doesn’t seem too bad as an option. My ideal is I may keep my car but only use it on weekends to travel and to tour in (I am in a band) so I was just looking to be car free as much as possible (general day to day purposes).
