I'm looking for a nice neighborhood with full-day public kindergarten and a good school system in Philadelpha suburbs. I am moving from Northern Jersey for a new job in philadelphia (Temle university). I have a 5 year old child with Asperger syndrome who will be going to a regular kindergaten with a shadow. I really need a suportive school district. I will be renting for a year and then will buy if happy with schools. I can afford up to $2000 monthly rent. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in adance.

My sons go to the Upper Moreland School District. It covers parts of Huntingdon Valley, Hatboro and Willow Grove, and it's not a bad drive to Temple. They have full day kindergarten and they are very supportive. My one son had to go through ADHD testing in kindergarten and they were very supportive with working with CHOP to get a diagnosis.

Good luck in your search.

It might be helpful to know that even in some school districts that typically offer only half-day kindergarten, a full-day often available for kids with extra needs. This is the case in the Wallingford-Swarthmore school district, for example, which might be a good fit for your family.

Central Bucks SD, one of the best in the state (Doylestown, Warrington, Buckingham, New Britan, Chalfont, and a few other towns). Also Council Rock is very good (covers Newtown, Richboro, Holland, Churchville). Lower Moreland is a very good school district also, but is a smaller school if you like that more (150-200 kids a grade). (Covers Huntingdon Valley)

Upper Dublin School District has full day K. This is a highly-regarded SD, but I'm not sure how it ranks for kids w/ special needs.

Depending on where you live in Upper Dublin you may even be able to walk to the train station to take it to your job @ Temple. If you can't walk, you can drive to the train in about 5 minutes from anywhere in Upper Dublin. It's also not a very congested area. It's mostly residential surrounding a large office park that is just off the PA Turnpike (Fort Washington exit). I'd say the property taxes are high but coming from North Jersey they'd probably be low to you.
