My sister is buying a house between Mckellips & Mcdowell Rd on Miller Rd. in Scottsdale, AZ. The location is closest to the Mcdowell and Miller Rd. intersection and sits in what I think is a very cute neighborhood. It seems like a family-oriented type of area and has lots of attractions nearby (car wash, denny's, fitness center, big lots, etc.. There is even a firestation down the road and a police station on the other end.

What do you people know about this area? Is it safe for my sister (female in her early 20's with a dog) to be okay in this area? Shall she need a roomie?

I can't find any crime statistics on the web about this area, and as the big sister.. I need to make sure she will be okay.

Please let me know your thoughts.
Thank you in advance!

Don't quote me on it but the area should be fine. I've recently moved to AZ (Tempe) and what I've seen of Scottsdale is very nice. Most of what I've seen has been northern Scottsdale but the worst I've heard about the town is a few people calling it "Snobsdale".

I think she'll be fine. It is an older, generally lower income part of town, but there's really no part of Scottsdale that's a huge issue. A friend of mine owned a home in that exact area a while back, lived there alone with her child and no dog, and felt perfectly safe.

Good area . . . I live in the neighborhood with my family. Older neighborhood in midst of a transition. ASU is to the south and Tempe Marketplace has opened up new opportunities. The business areas closeby need to be redeveloped, as the recession hit us hard, but a great neighborhood.
