Hi..... I want some help in finding a good dealer for a pre owned Mazda Miata. I live in Alaska and will want to purchase a car within a couple weeks of coming there in January for six months......I figure a reputable dealer is the "safest" way to go about purchasing a pre owned vehicle....but I could be wrong.

Looking for a Miata in good shape in the $6-$9K range.

Thanks for any insights........

Don't limit yourself to a Mazda dealership. I was in the market last year for a Mazda 3 and found exactly what I wanted from Riverview Toyota.

This website was a huge help New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews and Pricing - Edmunds.com

During my search I did come across a dealership that will never get my business. Berge Mazda in Mesa. Bad experience dealing with them.

Do you NEED to buy from a dealer? There are plenty of miatas on craigslist.

I know you said it's safer to buy from a dealer, but you would be able to avoid dealer fees and markups by going with a private seller.

Agreed on the mark ups but I think that a dealer has to be able to stand behind the car in case it breaks right away. not true with a private party. also dealers have the carfax in hand........private party not so much.........I have noticed the prices seem to be lower in San Diego which surprises me.....

Sold a Miata a few years ago, coulda sold another half dozen- first guy took it for asking price, several more called after and wanted to buy it sight unseen. This is a tough car to buy used.

Maybe it's not an option for you, but I would say swallow hard and buy it new.

If you do go to a dealer- walk out if they want you to go through the dance, where they say what do you offer, then go back to the sales manager and come back asking for thousands more, etc. etc. Know what is reasonable to pay (try edmunds.com) and it they don't get reasonable go somewhere else.

I do not believe Mazda has warranties on used vehicles.

Are you going to be financing or paying cash?

Were there years in the Miata more bulletproof than the others? Any years to avoid?
