I make jewelry and am in need of stuff like old typewriter keys, watch parts, etc. Hard to even list what I need - I just know what I need when I see it.
Any leads on shops in Phoenix or the surrounding areas? I already haunt places like Goodwill. What I want are those stores that are filled to busting with what looks like trash & junk.

You need to visit some of the outlying towns like Jerome, Wickenburg, even Prescott. They have lots of "antique" and "old things" stores that have all kinds of junk.

Also the "Town Dump" in Cave Creek.

There is an interesting place in Payson, but I can never figure out when it is open. I think it is called the Indian Trading Place. Right now, I'm pretty sure it is open on the weekends in the summer, but I'm not sure about winter. Lots of help, right? Well, if you are passing through, it is north of the Beeline-260 intersection--about 1 1/2 miles past on your right hand side. It is set back from the highway and surrounded by chain link fence. It looks very intriguing and very full of junk.

Default Old Fashioned "Junk" Stores

The "Town Dump" looks like fun. Will also check out some of the further afield areas.

Thanks for the replies & Happy Holidays.

The Town Dump may not be what you're looking for. They have great stuff but it's geared for the tourist trade. Lots of pottery and items from Mexico, I've never seen cheap junky stuff in there. But go anyway because it's a fun place to look around. Another place like it: Don't know the name but as you're coming up Cave Creek Road it's the first shop on the right, around the bend as you head into town proper. There's a small parking lot out front and it's a wooden building. (There are a lot of metal sculptures out front.) I've found some pretty interesting items there.

Edited: The Town Dump does have things small things that you could use for your jewelry making. Look in the bins around the cash register. I nearly forgot but I've dug around for things there for a friend who makes jewelry.

DewDrop - thanks for the info. I'd kind of figured out that Town Dump was going to be pricey. But the heads up on the bins by the register is great. Thanks.

Beadles, I'll tell you what I found at the Town Dump that made my jewelry making friend very happy. Milargos. The tiny charms put on crosses in Mexico to represent things like healings. There are a lot of places in C.C. that have the crosses with the charms but T.D. is the only place I've found just the milargos.

Take a day and enjoy Cave Creek. Wander around and see what you find. I can recommend the margaritas at El Encanto.

(Oh, try the Lazy Lizard if you like looking at cool stuff. It's a consignment shop and they've had some fabulous things in there.)

DDI - you're the best! I don't drink (due to medication - not for lack of wanting to!) but if I promise my husband a side trip to a bar we can make a day of it.

Happy Holidays to ALL -

I honestly don't see Jerome having anything for you, I'm up there all the time and there are not really any junk shops.
