My Husband and I are moving to the Phoenix, AZ area. We are in our mid & late forties, no kids. Where are some of the nicer areas to live? We would prefer a "non kid zone" but don't want to be hanging out with the retirees either. We have two dogs and love all outdoor activities. Really want to live in more upscale area that is reasonably priced. Is this out there?

Give us a better idea of how you define "nicer." And "reasonably priced." MOST IMPORTANTLY where are you both going to be working. For nearly everyone in Phoenix, their place of employment is the first consideration when selecting their residence.

I'm sure we can make suggestions that will help once we have more information.

What is your price range? There are MANY areas both in Phoenix and in the surrounding suburbs that would probably work.

Have you ever been here before? A visit just to get the feel of the area would go a long way to helping you find where you want to be. And, I'd rent for 6 months before buying, to be sure you are in the area you really want to live in.

Hi,
Thanx for getting back. My husband will be working in Phoenix (northern). Price range is 250 to 400. We both have been to Phoenix and Scottsdale before. We both LOVE Scottdale. We are planning on renting first but want to get a head start on some other areas for housing out there. What is Carefree and Sun City like?

Sun City is retiree central.

At your price range the options will be flowing: nicer parts of Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert...

Just contact an agent and they'll line up many options for you. At your range they'll be hungry for the commission.

I don't know your price range but if you can afford 1$million plus - there is no beating the north central corridor of Phoenix proper. All of your criteria would be met.

Working in Northern Phoenix - I'd suggest you NOT look at Chandler and Gilbert - just too much of a commute. Sun City - it really is a retiree area and I think you would not feel comfortable there.

Carefree and Scottsdale are both what I would define as "upscale" as long as you stay away from the older areas. (Not a problem - you'll know them when you see 'em.) Lovely scenery, some great local hiking, sometimes a good size lot, and your upper price range will definitely get you a wide choice of properties. I'd say Carefree and the farther north and north east areas of Scottsdale sound like a good starting place for you.

Desert Ridge is a great area located in North Phoenix, also a quick drive to N Scottsdale. Thereis lots to do in the area. You can find some great houses in your price range there.
