When I visited last year Labor Day weekend....I stayed at the the 3Palms Hotel...Room Rate was $49 a night....Basically I was told that it was an old Motel 6 that an independent buyer 'swooped" up and renovated....Have to say he did an excellent job. The hotel has a "modern art deco" touch to it.
Free parking...Clean and Safe. I think you would like it....Not the Biltmore, but for ordinary folk looking for a safe clean place to stay... You can't beat it.

I would definitely recommend the biltmore

More detail on this link on how to get the promo

azcentral.com blogs - Dawn Gilbertson's blog: Now Departing - NowDeparting - Deal of the day: $83 summer rates at Arizona Biltmore Resort

$83 base rate + $10 resort fee and taxes ..... waive the self park fee ......... may be able to save a little bit elsewhere, but it's a steal deal at that rate and when you consider that rooms on peak go over the $300-$400 range it's a nice off-season splurge

here is another article that has summer pre-sales at some nice places for unbelievable rates

Phoenix-area resorts offer deals for summer, but act fast

$75 for the Pointe Hilton Tapatio Cliffs is awesome and that property is in a nice location

As a local I'll often stay at one of these places with my wife as a nice get away ......... service is great, rooms are great and they aren't crowded

One of those places was the chapparel suites - we were there a handfull of years ago ...... their summer promotion seemed aimed more to people who want to drink & party by the pool .... great deal, low rate, large resort credit, distributors running open promotions for a couple hours, great location for going out in scottsdale ....... rooms showed their age ...... but not exactly quiet or relaxing

Sounds like you have a great trip planned out though regardless of where you rest your head

Thanks for providing the link Finger Laker. To the OP, I can confidently say that if you stay at the Arizona Biltmore, you will remember it for the rest of your life. Don't shortchange yourself on vacation -- make a great vacation an outstanding vacation.

good to hear about your GC trip. Well done!

Yes, the Biltmore is a once in a lifetime splurge. But not for every trip, and I think I 'hear' what you are saying.

Hampton Inn is a good choice. My personal opinion is that they are a bit overpriced for what you get. If you are simply looking for good, clean, modern lodging, don't need a bar and restaurant, I'd go with La Quinta. I can't specifically suggest any in the Phoenix area, but I can tell you this: In traveling around a lot in the US, I've NEVER been dissatisfied with a LQ. I've never felt lile they were overpriced or unclean or terribly old and outdated. Are they all wonderful? Nope, but they were ALL just fine.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Has anyone heard of or stayed at the new Hampton Inn & Suites at Riverwalk Scottsdale near the Talking Stick? There are only two reviews on Tripadvisor. This has only been open a couple of months. The location is 9550 East Indian Bend Road in Scottsdale. It looks like it used to be a DoubleTree.

I like the Holiday Inn at the Osborn Light Rail Stop. You can't get more central, than that.

The OP mentioned Chaparral Suites, my sister-in-law stayed there on business a few years back and liked the place. I have stayed at The Cottonwoods several times before, nice rooms, quiet, and during this June I see the price is right... around $60-75 a night for a casita, not a room. Most resorts in the summer are cheap because the rooms are empty. In the 90s the Phoenician used to advertise down in Tucson mid-week rates of $59/night and $99 Thurs-Sat.

Thanks everyone. We chose the Hotel Highland at Biltmore. Reviews and location look good. I remembered everyone said to stay as central as possible. Maybe in a future trip we will stay at the Biltmore or at one of the ones we considered in Scottsdale. For now, we don't plan on spending a lot of time in the room or on the grounds so this seemed like a logical choice at a decent price.

I will chime in for Hampton Inn. There were times I stayed at Hampton Inn overnight in Chandler. My favorite is at Hermosa Beach in California. I was a regular guest and they once put me in the top suite with a jacuzzi in the room and at that level you could see the blue Pacific ocean from the jacuzzi.

Everyone one seems to like HI, but my room was tiny....and my house is only 400 sf. Most unhealthy breakfast choices except for the apples.
