HOA's in poorer neighborhoods also don't seem to care or enforce the rules. In rich neighborhoods, you can't get away with this type of activity. Give me rich neighbors. They might be a-holes but at least they are responsible.
Responsible?

I like where we live. It's still, exactly, what I expected this neighborhood to be, and it still lives up to it. However, would I buy a house in this "neighborhood" again? In that phrasing, no. But I would buy this EXACT house, based on its exact location, in this neighborhood.

In the end though, we're looking forward to selling this in 16 months and going back to renting. Owning a house is great, but not out here, with the HoA and city rules that go up to your nose. We always can't really stand how low the backyard fences are out here... too much a lack of privacy when you can stand in your kitchen and completely see into your backyard neighbors kitchen.

At this point I'd rather be closer to stores and work, so I'm good here in Peoria. I wish we could find work on the outskirts so we could move farther out, but oh well. I'm pretty happy with our area anyway.
My poor daughter sure got the shaft. She transferred to Phoenix from Oregon with her job and is living with friends in El Mirage. Her job was around I-17 and Indian School. NOW they've transferred her to Tempe not far from ASU! She has to leave an hour early to make it on time and she can't move from El Mirage at this point in time. Good thing she likes to drive, I guess, but is looking to get rid of her car because it's not an automatic and drives her nuts to be shifting gears all the time.

I like where I live, but if money was no issue...I would have 10 acres in Sedona or nearby....

whats the deal with the low backyard walls in AZ? i agree just rediculous.. are you aloud to plant trees etc to block the neighbors views..how come your not aloud to extend the walls higher or add a vinyl fence to the wall height.

seems rediculous to me if your laying at your pool and your neighbor can just peep into your backyard from his house..

The South Tempe/North Chandler area provides immediate access to two major freeways (101 and I-10), proximity to the airport and downtown, proximity to ASU, and proximity to Old Town Scottsdale.

That being said, I think there are some amazing areas that were developed better and definitely have a more upscale neighborly community feel that doesn't look so "Arizona-like" in terms of the look of the homes and neighborhoods and remind of developments in California and the Midwest. They have grass, trees, non-Southwest appearing homes, community centers, parks, etc.

if you want grass, trees and non-southwest appearing everything why in the world do you live in the southwest?
