Every major city has one, i wouldn't doubt if it was in Maryvale area. What place should i avoid at all costs?

Skid row, where the homeless are, is just a couple block west of downtown on Madison. I would not call it dangerous, just a lot of down and out people there. The worst area is debatable but it's probably not Maryvale. The place I would not want to be walking at night would be around 15th Avenue and Buckeye, again sort of near downtown. But, there is really no place to avoid at all costs, especially in the day time. Phoenix does not have a place where if you take a wrong turn or exit, you would be at risk.

all good points by Ponderosa....there is no "avoid at all costs" area in Phoenix like the "war zones" you see in eastern cities....but a recent crime map (can't find it now) showed the highest crime near 19th Ave and Thomas, give or take, certainly not near Maryvale, which is traditionally the "bad area" of town....

some might argue you should avoid at all costs the "Entertainment District" in downtown Scottsdale....I certainly try to....

19th Ave area, between Indian School and Camelback. I wouldn't be driving through any of the side streets at night around there.

Here's one, isn't that Cave Creek, Bell, 32nd St, Greenway area supposed to be fairly bad as well.

There is one area I have always been told to avoid when in Phoeinix due to the wholesale criminal activities that take place in that area. It's Adams on the north, Jefferson on the south, 17th Avenue on the east, an 18th Avenue on the west.

The "My Town" map linked to above doesn't show anything near 19th Ave and Thomas but the Encanto Park golf course.
