El Mirage mulch fire 'could burn for over a month'

There was thick smoke yesterday over I-10 for several miles around Goodyear and Litchfield Park early in the evening when we were driving through.

I was heading south on the 101 (EB to SB) and could see a low "cloud" hanging over off to the west. Is that the fire smoke I saw?

It's bad out there. The family shoppers were down the hill around Best Buy today and came home smelling of smoke it was so thick. Even the car smells like it. They said there is a fog of it down by the freeway in Goodyear.

That's unfortunate. Pretty much what we dealt with last night driving through that area. I can tolerate a bit of smoke but it was so heavy it was giving us a headache/burning our eyes.

I find it hard to believe they can't cap this fire better in some way, put some kind of material aside from water on it to smother it/take away the oxygen. Especially now that it's impacting lots of lives and business $.

Now that I think about it, the other evening as we were getting home from work, I noticed a haze in the air as we got off the 101 onto I-17 north. I could smell a faint smoke smell. Did the wind shift and bring it north?

Still smell it at my house. Any idea when it might go away? Original reports said 3 days and it's way past that.

We could really see the smoke today on the westbound 101, even could see exactly where the fire is
