And Snow Bowl is a relatively short drive from Phoenix.
Maybe I should start a thread about surfing options near Phoenix?

That's silly, I'm all for cycling year round, but when 4' of snow dumps on flag you can bet your @ss I'm heading up there. Snowbowl gets as much snow as every east coast resort, boasts 2,000' vert, and has some great glades runs to get into not to mention some killer bowls if you hike up off the top lift. To each there own, but I enjoy AZ skiing as much as any place, when the snow is right I'm in.

The canal just west of the I17 around Jomax looks like it's doable! It's downhill!

Do you think I can talk to the pool guy about doing something like this in my existing pool?

...or is that too much?

I know there are ski resorts around Flagstaff and at least one near Tucson, but I'm wondering if any clearly have the local reputation as the nicer or more convenient destinations, better amenities?

You can't always tell the truth from a resort's own website and it's enough of a niche that I don't get the sense reviews on the big sites are very conclusive. Thanks for any insight.
Sunrise and Snowbowl should both be fine for the occasional fix. My husband grew up in the Phoenix area and skied both of them quite frequently. It's another one of the great things about AZ - different climates are all within bout five hours. Hard to find that anywhere else in the country.
