Hi,

Thinking of moving to AZ, but born and lived in CA all my life. This state is out of control and tax crazy, and it's going to get worse next year thanks to our governor.

I love the ocean and being near the water is super important, as I also enjoy stand up paddle boarding.

Are there any large water recreation areas near Gilbert?

How about the weather? I've been to Phoenix a few times and the heat is oppressive. I've read Gilbert isn't as bad.

Thanks for your input

Dude, Gilbert is Phoenix. Are you under the impression that Gilbert has a different climate than the metropolitan area that it's a part of? Confused as to why you've zeroed in on Gilbert. There are lakes out the outskirts that you can SUP on.

Gilbert has similar temperatures as Phoenix during the day but it would a bit cooler at night in the summer night.

Gilbert during the summer does not have the heat island that downtown Phoenix does so it cools off quicker and low temperatures are also cooler in the summer.

The Gilbert area though seems to get more monsoon storms in downtown Phoenix.

I think Gilbert is a bargain for the extremely high quality of life it offers. It is also fairly close to Scottsdale and Tempe.

Gilbert has extremely low taxes. The typical 2,000 square foot home is around $300,000 and the property tax bill would be around $2,000 yearly. The sales taxes are low compared to California and Arizona has some of the lowest income taxes in the country.

The same houses that are $800,000 to $1,000,000 in Orange County would be $300,000 in Gilbert. Property taxes are about 1.1% of the purchase price in California so a house that is just bought that would a $10,000 tax bill in Orange County would be around $2,000 in Gilbert.

I just moved from the area, but I really liked Gilbert.

It is likely the most litter free town of it's size I have ever been in. It is a city of mainly single-family homes and townhomes are that are very modern in a very landscaped setting.

Lots of really, really new big-box retailer and many more locally owned places then most towns of it's size.

If you can afford California then live in California. Gilbert has nothing on CA except for a much lower cost of living.

Gilbert is a very nice area.. I'm from California SoCal as well, but going to move to move to queen Creek in june-july..

Property tax was the main reason why we are moving... Had a home in Menifee with a property tax of 8,500 it was crazy...

Gilbert was over our budget but if it wasnt.. I would definitely get a house out there

Gilbert is the Irvine of SoCal.

For 1/3rd the cost of Irvine.

California is great to visit, awful to live unless you have a household income of $150k+. Gilbert is hands down the best managed, cleanest suburb in Phoenix. A booming downtown with all the great Scottadale and Central Phx restaurants, and housing is dirt cheap compared to anywhere else in the country with good weather.

Taxes and traffic are out of control. I don't like having so much of my money taken and squandered by the idiot politicians here.

Quality of life as well. I'd like to live elsewhere for a while with a bit slower pace.

I have lots of family in AZ as well - Tucson, Mesa and Nogales.

Allergies are rough here and Gilbert and Phoenix have virtually the same weather. Still wondering why you chose Gilbert to focus your search on and no other Phoenix suburbs. Not that it's bad, just seems random.
