We may be moving to Arizona for my husband to take a job in Tolleson. We do not want to live in Tolleson, but are looking at Goodyear and Peoria. Both areas have a lower crime rate and good school ratings (we have a 6th grader). Does anyone have thoughts on either of these cities and the pros and cons of each? Thank you!

Goodyear is closer, obviously. The nicest part of Peoria is to the far north, further from Tolleson. If it were me, Goodyear would win.

I keep hearing great things about goodyear. I also heard that Peoria is hit-and-miss.

If you took the built environment of each and switched them you’d have no idea.

The issue with Peoria is that the newer/nicer parts of it are largely north of Bell and west of the 101 - ie: along Lake Pleasant Pkwy, Happy Valley Rd. and the Vistancia area. Not exactly close to Tolleson. South Peoria can be a little dicey/run down, especially near/along Grand Ave. Goodyear is much closer to Tolleson. Lots of new developments going up. Very family friendly. Estrella Mountain Ranch is a popular choice and has lots of community amenities. There are also some nice areas north of the 10. Northwest Peoria is nice if you're going to be working in that area, but Goodyear is going to work better for anyone who works downtown or points in between.

I've read good things about Estrella Mountain Ranch, but are there high HOA fees to live in that area?

Litchfield Park could be a good option too. If schools are high priority, which they should be, between Goodyear and Peoria I would suggest Peoria. But it also depends on your potential price range/budget. Goodyear sometime is thought more of as a retirement area. Peoria has some older sections but some great areas and is arguably closer to more stuff.

I live in Goodyear and work in Peoria. I would pick Goodyear to live any day of the week. Peoria is older and there are some rough areas. I like the newness and growth of Goodyear while still having some open space around.

Just as an FYI, Goodyear is actually older than Peoria from what I can see in my research. Yes there are older parts of Peoria. Goodyear has older parts too.

The older part of Goodyear is very small, unlike Peoria. The majority of Goodyear is new and shiny. Maybe it is because I work in Peoria on the border with Sun City that I think Peoria feels much older.

I've lived in Goodyear for a decade and worked in Peoria for the last four years. I'm very familiar with both.
