Larissa is in the southern part of glendale; 99th and Camelback.
It's an alright area, if you go further west you're in to Litchfield park, which is beautiful;
but you're pretty close to the shady areas of west Phoenix. Not too bad, though.

The commute from there would be less than ideal.
I'm guessing 15 minutes or so with no traffic; on the plus side, it's a reverse commute most of the way, so you wouldn't have many traffic issues.

You can do better, though.
I too, suggest arrowhead.

goodyear is just as nice as the area mentioned in that grid (i've lived in both and wouldn't of said this when i first moved to goodyear, but times are a changing) - however, if that is where you are working I would definitely recommend the arrowhead area and the range mentioned - you really aren't limiting yourself as this is a huge swatch of land with many different neighborhoods - you have the arrowhead mall, the peoria sports complex with all their restaurants, the bars/restaurants on bell road and good access to all highways

you will also probably be closer to other members of the campus community which may make it easier to socialize

OK--so I have managed to find a place in Glendale. Now I need to set up my utilities. Are there choices for electric, etc.? What about cable/internet/phone companies? Any suggestions?
Ellen

i think you are pretty much given either APS or SRP depending on where you are - they should tell you which one - when I lived up off 75th & bell we were APS

if you aren't in an apartment complex you could have a choice on cable/phone - cox & qwest are the major providers and satelite tv is always an option as well

best of luck & congrats!
