Buy your light rail fare at any light rail station with cash, credit, or debit card. If traveling to and from Chase Field, purchase an all-day pass to avoid lines at fare vending machines after the game. Once you activate your pass, it's good for unlimited boardings the same day.
My experience the last few years with the light rail is the credit or debit cards do not work. Tried the cards in all positions. Watched others have the same experience. Contacted support thru the website and got nothing.

A security guard tried to help me once. After 2 failed attempts he said, "WTH! Just get on!"

$1 bills work in the machines.

Government systems usually work so well. I'm shocked by this.

Valley Metro is in transition to a new fare payment system using a mobile app. Before going to a game, download the app, buy a pass online, and scan the QR code at the platform before boarding the train. It will save you the hassle of dealing with finicky machines that may or may not accept cards at any given time.

By the way, I'm not really sure why this thread from 2009 was brought back to life after 14 years. Easter was nearly two weeks ago, but the resurrections continue, I guess.

The new app works well. I've been part of beta testing for various versions of it for some time. The one criticism that I have is that you can't buy a reduced fare (senior, youth, disabilities, etc.) ticket in the app without getting a Reduced Fare ID and the associated ID number. I had to go to an office at at 46th St and Washington to get the ID.

I noticed that. I think I'm going to have make getting those IDs a summer project so that my kids, who sometimes take Valley Metro buses to their schools, will be ready for the next school year.

Personally I don't have a problem with it, I think it's still a good stadium. I know a lot of people like new and shiny.

I wasn’t aware that that had changed.

With no explanation of how you came to that conclusion.

Exactly! Nothing wrong with Chase Field. All it needs is the necessary upkeep & repairs, which is certainly better (and less expensive) than building another stadium in some far flung location. Hopefully, we have learned our lesson from Glendale Arena / Jobing.com Arena / Desert Diamond Arena, etc., and WHY it was a failure.

I like Chase Field but it has a bad reputation
