I haven't gone out to eat for a Sunday brunch or at an upscale type restaurant in a long time because I find that there are no good values in this segment. I know food prices increased a lot in 2008, but with oil prices down a lot since last year and the Valley in a recession you'd think there would be more restaurant deals for higher end establishments. I'm a value oriented shopper at all price levels but I think that ever since the recent housing boom, prices at high end restaurants have gone out of sight and portions have remained constant. Sunday Brunch prices have skyrocketed too. Maybe the culture has changed and people wash style and a hip atmosphere over a relaxed, staid, old fashioned, luxurious but a good value (not a rip-off) restaurant. Where are the good deals in fine dining and Sunday brunches in the Valley for the old school crowd?

What's a good value for you? How much would you consider a reasonable price for a Sunday brunch?

don't really know the sunday brunch scene, but keep an eye open for happy hour / early dining promotions, promotions on off nights, fixed menu meals, etc

donovans provides tasty steak sandwiches during their happy hour (although the drinks aren't cheap)

the stockyards is running a summer special

http://www.stockyardsrestaurant.com/PDF/SummerSpecialsMenu2009.pdf (broken link)

last time I was there they also had bottles of wine at 50%

roaring fork has an extended happy hour that has some good deals

keep an eye on azcentral

Dining deals: Sassi, Trente-Cinq, Eddie V's restaurants

how does good value and upscale even go together lol? You can't put a price on quality is what I say. But having said that, I have found brunch at some of the upscale hotels to be within reason. Nice buffet style, w/ great food.

I love the brunch at the Compass Room, the spinning restaurant atop the Hyatt Regency downtown Phoenix; great view of the Valley. I think it is still around $20-30 a person. Haven't been in a while. Now I can't wait for this Sunday!

maaann........I got woozy up there. I know that's crazy, it so nice too, but just the fact that I could feel myself moving was unsettling to me lol. But I'd do it again, after I popped some dramamine

I haven't been to the Compass Room in years, but unless it has dramatically improved, I can't recommend it. For me the Compass Room has always been about a nice view paired with mediocre food. That's typical of revolving restaurants atop Hyatt Regency hotels. They usually cater to tourists and conventioneers, rather than foodies.

My favorite Sunday brunch is at the Royal Palms. There's a modest buffet that emphasizes quality over quantity. By itself, it's $29. It's a also possible to order a-la-carte entrees priced around $10-$15 and then add the buffet for $19. The total cost per person would still come in under $40.
