Can anyone tell me if you decide to send your child to a private school or home school in AZ if there is a tax credit?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your reply but i was looking for an answer to the question if there is such a credit if one chooses to take a different route than public schooling.

There are no direct tax credits at all (in other words, you can't take a credit on your taxes for costs of homeschooling or private school for your own children).

I send my kids to private school and there are tuition assistance programs at our school through tax credits. We have an organization that works directly with our school where everyone who gives receives a tax credit and every student who signs up to receive assistance gets some help. You can ask other people to recommend your child for their tax credit. Many of our families receive assistance through , L.I.F.E, Arizona Private Education Scholarship Fund, Arizona School Choice Trust,Arizona Christian Schools Tax Credit Organization and Lutheran Education Foundation. If you are interested in a certain school I would ask the office for information on what programs they use and how you can make them work for your situation.

There is a LOT of controversy about those credits (to taxpayers) and the oversight on how they are spent by some of those organizations. I think it was the Tribune that did a big story on it not long ago. I'd be expecting some changes in the laws on that.

Note that anyone can make a contribution to a school, public or private, and receive an Arizona tax credit. We have been doing that for years to the charter school that our son graduated from.

And it is what is then done with that money that is the source of the controversy.

There is an Arizona tax credit for fees paid to Public Schools and/or Tuition Organizations. There is No tax credit for private schools or homeschools. The credit for public schools is limited to $200 single or $400 married filing jointly. It is claimed on AZ form 322.
