Pitt is definitely more of a regional school. But that's neither here nor there.

Yes, CSU is the safe school. The lower tier doesn't discount the native disdain for Boulder. It's not "nothing".
Not all "natives" have a disdain for Boulder. The most popular college for graduates of both my kids' high school classes was CU-Boulder. Second was FRCC. This was in 2002 and 2005.

This has been an interesting conversation, but we're hijacking the thread; we probably should agree to disagree and quit now.

Just an aside, but there is some amount of regionalism at every level of college/university--Harvard is going to get more Northeast students than Stanford, and Stanford more West Coast students than Harvard.

And all regions are not the same. The Mid-Atlantic region may not look big on a map, but it is very dense in terms of population, education, and prosperity.

Finally, with Pitt (as with many similar schools) you really need to distinguish different programs/schools.

I'm worried as to what will happen once the student loan bubble bursts.

The distinction between "regional" and "national" is meaningless. The issue is the ability to draw on prospects outside of market. CU does that well. So does Pitt. Both are sustainable drivers of a regional economy.

If you broadened the scope to Pittsburgh metro versus Denver metro, Pittsburgh does a much better job of attracting out-of-market students. And Denver has a brain drain problem. Pittsburgh does not.

My guess is that Eds Pittsburgh will get stronger as a result. A bit like what happened when the real estate bubble burst.

I'd tend to agree.

I don't know about either one of those statements. Please provide some documentation. The University of Denver has a majority out of state student body.

College Search - University of Denver - DU - At a Glance

Denver is growing; Pittsburgh is not. I am talking about the metro here.

Well the problem is that having housing is a necessity where as having a higher level education from a college is not. Plus if people can't afford college enrollment should technically be down all over the nation right?
