Yeah, it was definitely more than a "dusting" though, especially for those that live on any kind of hill.

Some people say it's a dusting when it doesn't remind them of March 13, 1993.

Same here. I left for work at around 3 PM yesterday under the impression we were supposed to receive "a slushy accumulation less than one inch." In the end we must have had 3" or 3.5" at my home judging by what I shoveled last night. I saw how bad Paulowna Street here in Polish Hill looked and decided to park my car near the abandoned school and walk home. I moved my car around midnight when the salt trucks had time to catch up. I was making deliveries in my Civic all night last night until we closed early around 9 PM, and to say the roads were atrocious is an understatement.

The city was woefully underprepared to deal with yesterday's storm (as usual).

True. We've been spoiled thus far. With that being said if last night is any indication of how understaffed our DPW is then I am DREADING working tonight when we're going to have freezing rain in addition to snow!

Last year or the year before it felt like I was shoveling the sidewalk every day at least once. I hadn't touched the shovel for about two weeks until this morning, so I guess that's something.

To be fair to the DPW crews I think there were just WAY too many vehicles out on the roads past rush hour last night. I didn't notice a discernible "calming" of traffic on our surface streets until 8 PM, which means people were getting home from work and then proceeding to pointlessly prance around in the snow in their SUVs INSTEAD of just sitting tight at home to let the road crews do their work without being impeded by traffic. I didn't notice a single plow or salt truck out at rush-hour, which tells me the DPW director must have advised his crews to delay snow removal until traffic cleared. A better strategy would have been to pre-treat the roads with salt, but I've noticed we're not always very "forward-thinking" here on some issues.

Heck, forget forward thinking--even backward thinking would help. It's not like we've never had snow before: you'd think we could have figured something out by now.

Why do people live here if they hate winter so much? I don't think I will ever understand that? MOVE!

I am so excited for that. Winter is basically my version of hell. I love Pittsburgh and my entire life is here, so that's what prevents me from relocating to a warmer climate!
