hmm thanks for that info. is june a bad time to move, or are you just saying that if i do decide to move in june, i should start looking immediately?

June is a great time to move if you have an apartment lined up - I just wanted to let you know that the supply of available units will be low at that time due to what I mentioned previously.

Grad students and medical students/residents find out in the spring where they've been accepted and will be looking for housing, and upperclassmen who want to find off-campus housing will be looking in the spring as well before the semester ends.

In short, the sooner you know whether you will be moving and can start looking seriously the better.

at $800-$1000 a month you should have a decent selection open to you. The only places that you may run into more expensive rent would be Sq.Hill or Shadyside, but even there I think that you can find a nice place within your budget.

Most student leases start August 1. I think April 1 would give you time to find an apt. for June 1. Also, Walnut Capital is a good place to start to look for "dog friendly" apts. http://walnutcapital.com/

Your price range should be okay long as you don't have crazy expectation for what you'll get (doesn't sound like it from what you've posted so far).

As for when to move, if you do it in June/July you have many more options but more competition. Basically any other time, you'll have less options but a lot less competition. Whatever, its probably a wash either way. If you want to move in the busier time, probably best to start looking now though.
