There's nothing else like a pennant race. It's every day, edge of your seat stuff. No other pro sport has the same feeling. IMO, only March Madness comes within shouting distance.

Ducked it for another rear. Someone upstairs got d'Arnaud. Still a chance for Brent Morel though!

Pirates to set club season attendance record Sunday | MLB.com

Quote:
the record merely fulfills club president Frank Coonelly's vow to MLB.com in February.

"I have publicly said that we need to break the franchise's all-time attendance record, and we're well on our way to doing that," Coonelly had said in the dawn of Spring Training.

Now they need to take some of that $$ and sign Martin, Walker, another bat, and a quality pitcher for next year to keep this going.

I have doubts they will considering their 2014 payroll was $1 million less than in 2013 despite making a bit more money in 2013

While I still go crazier for College football than anything else, it obviously doesn't have the same all consuming, day-to-day effect. The World Cup has the same sort of ability to completely take over a fan's life every day for several weeks, especially during the group stages, but it lacks the intensity of having YOUR TEAM playing EVERY SINGLE DAY.

A good pennant race just can't be matched by any thing else in sports for a daily grind of nerve-wracking intensity. I thought the second wild-card would dilute September baseball, but it's only served to make the playoff race more inclusive and intense, as well as add weight to the division races.

Yeah, I know it won't happen but it sure would be nice to keep it going.

Bucs have the first wild card spot now. Just need to keep even with the Giants to host the game next week.

Yep. Just think where they'd be with a few more quality MLB players.
