Hello everyone! Sorry to be one of the many "I'm moving to Pittsburgh" threads, but I'm moving to Pittsburgh and would like any help!

I am a mid-20s, female recent college graduate and I am moving to Pittsburgh in a month. (lol) I will be working at the Consol Energy Center. I will be spending a lot of my time there. I will not have my car with me at first, and I wouldn't like to bring it up, but I will if I just absolutely need to. I've visited Pittsburgh a few times to visit a friend and I love it. I am really interested in a studio (or a 1bdrm if I'm lucky) and I would like to not spend more than $1000 (give or take a little bit) each month on rent. I was looking at some places around the Consol Energy Center, but I am not too sure about the area. My friend went to Pitt, so I've only really been in the Oakland and Shadyside area. I love the idea of being able to walk to work, and I've looked online at City View (formerly Washington Plaza) and they seem affordable, but I wanted to know what else is out there that you don't see from a google search. I wouldn't mind having a place in the Oakland or Shadyside area, as I know it's cheaper to live there and just find a roommate or sublet if possible. If I didn't live within walking distance of the CSE, is it easy to use public transportation from Oakland or Shadyside to the CSE? Is downtown a safe area for a young female to live by herself at? I will be working a lot, but I wouldn't mind an area that is walking distance to fun bars, restaurants, or a younger area. I am open to any other areas y'all may have in mind, but I am really looking for something that is a nice, clean, (somewhat) affordable place that I feel safe in and is a fun area for someone my age. Thanks in advance!!

You can live on the South Side, a lot of fun spots, and it isn't that far of a walk across the 10th St. Bridge to the Consol.

There is also direct bus service via the Birmingham Bridge from the South Side to the Consol on Rtes 81 and 83.

The walk isn't bad, if you are doing it during the day from South Side to 5th Ave. Lots of Duquesne students live on the South Side and trek the 10th Street.

I'd think the South Side, as already mentioned, or Shadyside would be more in line with what you are asking about it live in.

That's a relatively high budget for a rental here. Very few local people talk about Shadyside as someplace "cheaper to live." There's very good bus service to downtown from there also.

Well I've seen a lot cheaper rentals in Shadyside but they definitely aren't as nice as some of the buildings I've seen downtown. I'm more into high-rise buildings with new(er) amenities and it seems most that I found in Shadyside are really old buildings. I mean that I found cheaper places in Shadyside if I found a roommate.

Also - I'm definitely not opposed to anything cheaper, I just like updated apartments and from what I've found a lot of Pittsburgh is really old housing.

You'll definitely pay a lot more if you want to avoid something old.

Lots of people like updated, modern , new apartments, but I don't think you are going to be able to rent newly constructed apartments at your price target in town, the South Side or Shadyside.

If you go further afield, you might be able to do it.

But to stay in the hottest areas, you've got to either pony up more money or accept older, less modern accommodations.

You can try to find a place on the t, the stop in town is at the us steel building. Dormont is a 20 min commute into town.
