Actually, there were articles posted here when plans were being made that said there won’t be any environmental impact from the emissions of the plant, so there won’t be any addition to the already less than ideal air quality the city already has.

And there are at least two pages of google search results describing the negative environmental impact of this project and the deficiencies in the agreement for pollution monitoring. What has that got to do with Apple adding jobs here?

At least Apple is exploiting the environment and labor in Asia and elsewhere and not in our backyard.
Sheesh, do you know nothing of blissful ignorance?

It is possible to drive 30 miles to work, especially if the pay is good.

Good news for Pittsburgh. I like this growth, it's helping to build-out some areas that have been surface lots and the character of the city isn't changing too much. Next year Apple will probably lease their own new building like Facebook is doing.

The job creation is actually in the city, the part of metro that actually matters. Apple and Facebook aren't dumping pollutants into western PA's air and water, another plus.

Who cares about some plastic plant down river that will come on line with a pittance of the jobs that tech naturally creates over that same time.

And what are the estimated pollution results when it’s up and running?

Don’t know what it has to do with Apple adding jobs here. I responded to the statement above it. Perhaps you should ask that poster?

Happens every day in and out of the city.

The pipe dream of Pittsburgh being some important tech Mecca continues. Wake me up when this actually happens. Amazon played you all for a fools. Yet you all come back for another gut punch. Let’s see if Apple adds all of these people. The gas and plastics growth is happening now. Yet it doesn’t matter because it isn’t hipster or happening in the city limits.

The gas drilling industry has and will provide more jobs and growth to the region than any other sector of employment. The experts credit the gas drilling industry for the small increases in population growth in the early 2010s for the metro.

Oh and more millennials are choosing the suburbs and exurbs over city living now. The whole back to the city movement was a short lived.

Yeah nevermind this little tidbit either. The east end elites have their heads buried in the sand. When the energy and manufacturing booms out in the airport area they will continue to cry the blues about more pollution and talk about feel good articles and minuscule growth in the city. The excuse mill will churn about trying to put a positive spin on millennials leaving the city. These people hate any growth outside of the city.

I don’t care about any economic growth that comes at the expense of the environment. I couldn’t care less if this region never made another cent off fossil fuels. It isn’t worth it just to get a few hundred more jobs for undereducated white men. Sorry.

r.e. Oil and gas:

There have been cases of racism and sexism in the industry in Pennsylvania, too. Last year, the Post Gazette reported a story about a black man working in the oil and gas industry in northeastern Pennsylvania who found a noose at his work. And a video surfaced last year of a white oil and gas worker repeatedly using racial epithets against a black videographer who was taping a protest in Butler County.

Quite the terrible racist remark you made. Certainly not valid and certainly not necessary.
