Seems Woodland Hills faces massive layoffs. Merging schools sure proved to be a huge mistake!!!

Penn Hills faces huge financial debt hoping to somehow correct it with a 10 year plan.

Times are great in the economy, but these districts are really struggling. Wow.

Is this due to White Flight in both cases?

Are there any examples of poorly performing school districts that really did turn it around and become successful again? This seems like the death knell for any community once the school’s go to hell.

How about students attending cyber school on the districts tab? In the case of Penn Hills there is definite mismanagement. On lesson that should have been learned is merging school districts is not a remedy for segregated districts.

Probably need to merge. That way they can take another school down the tubes. What happened to Churchill and Edgewood. Nice job judge.

honestly, it would be too big to merge. i would say keep the wealthy sections in a new district with a portion of the lower income and then have the lowe income merge into better performing districts. of course better performing districts have no incentive to take on lower performing students.

Woodland Hills is already a result of a merger. Merge again?

Merge them all. It’s patently absurd that we have 43 school districts in Allegheny County.

Unfortunately merging doesn’t work. It only destroys good schools. If we keep merging we will need to have more private school options.

Wrong. Your “good” schools are only good because they’re de facto private schools for small affluent communities. County-wide or regional school districts are more equitable.
