I'd like to see a comparison of the square feet occupied by UPMC vs Highmark in the city. Upmc would likely be the big loser in applying property taxes there. They would need to reduce their presence in the city.

On the other hand, both companies could get their workers back in the office if they went full H1B.

Businesses get patronized greatly before and after games, people pay for parking, provides jobs, tax revenue, etc…

Even though you hate them and the stadium, you should actually get out sometime and visit the area before a Stillers game. It’s a busy and great time.

The ticket office will help anyone purchase digital tickets? Why would tourists have to walk up and buy tickets when they can easily bought online?
People want the tickets to say that they have tickets. Businesses get patronized before and after the handful of games they play. We know that. It was a column by Gene Collier that pointed out the fact that the seats have only been filled once since 2013. Gene isn`t the kind of guy that makes things up.

Most stadia coast to coast rarely fill to capacity. There are concerts and highly competitive games that bring in big crowds on occasion.

Print them. Few venues have paper tickets anymore...and it certainly doesn’t stop Stillers fans from buying them with a many years long waiting list. Not much need for a ticket office or printed tickets when the games are sold out.

Considering you don’t know how many games are even played, gonna need need proof to your unfounded claim of the stadium being filled once since 13, as I’m certainly not going to believe you remembering what Collier said, and while Gene wouldn’t make things up, you would because you hate the Stillers and especially the stadium, and you should have no problem finding the article.

The Steelers count actual butts in seats, unlike most teams, so I can see a non-capacity game even if they're "officially" sold out.

No question about it. Plans change, people get sick, don’t pass the tickets on or sell them, etc…

I simply asked for proof to the claim the poster made.

Can Gainey even force non-profits that qualify under state law to pay property taxes? Or would he have to convince the legislature to change the law?

Him and Summer Lee are pandering like they’re going to do something, and it’s funny how UPMC mostly only gets mentioned. They should spend so much time on the violence in the city and actually get something accomplished.

your comment points to what ive been saying for a while - that today's crop of progressive-minded, pro-populist type leaders in government really do not know how to govern in reality.
you cant just "fight" for what is a utopian vision...there is compromise, and people are, well, complicated.

i have no way of knowing, of course, but i might bet Gainey is realizing that NOW, what with the city's impending fiscal doom.....

a representative of the fire department was on KDKA's morning show recently (sorry, do not remember his name nor his title) and he stated the City is WOEFULLY backlogged in maintenance and/or replacement of its engines, some FORTY SEVEN of them....to replace each is a MILLION dollars, and the replacement procurement procedure (all my choice of words for the actual terminology) is like TWO YEARS for one fire engine.
