Hi everyone, I am moving from Johnstown to Pitt, and I would like to hear some opinions of some of the different cities and neighborhoods. I am looking for a safe lower middle class neighborhood within only about 2 miles of downtown Pitt with good public schools for my two children. I like what I am finding in the neighborhoods of Duquesne Hts, Mt. Washingotn, and South side, especially South side. I'd like to know if any of those places meet my criteria, and if not, what would?

Thank you.

Not sure about the south side for raising children... it's mainly bars and hangouts for 20-30 yr olds.

Gotta say that even though I lived on Mt. Washington for a few years I can't say what city high school serves that neighborhood now. South Hills High School is long gone. It's probably Brashear on Crane Avenue in Beechview, one of the newer in the city and probably one of the better. But for about the same rent or mortgage payment you could go just a little out and find a place in Dormont or Greentree, both serviced by the Keystone Oaks School District, and both probably alot better for kids.

Duquesne Heights is basically Mt. Washington so the same applies. The South Side's a bit inner city for kids coming from Johnstown, I'd think.

I'd say look in Beechview, too (and not just because it's where I live.) It's on the T, I've never heard any complaints about the schools, and most of the neighbors are nice.
