I lived in Chicago for a few years and I personally think the hot dogs compare favorably, although I am not into an actual Chicago-style hot dog in terms of toppings. My favorite thing at D's is the fries, and they also have good sandwiches and decent pizza, salads, and burgers--basically, it is just a solid place for bar food, with a great beer selection (including a constantly rotating draft selection with interesting choices).

By the way, when D's expanded (in terms of both space and menu), the original concept was to do a sports bar type place. But they brought in a local artist to do some cool murals and such with a kind of medieval theme, and when combined with the American-favorites menu, they also ended up with a very kid-friendly place. So now you get this interesting mix of kid's birthday parties, hipsters, old-school 'Burghers, and so on--I sometimes call it the town square of Regent Square, because basically you can find every sort of person in the neighborhood hanging out there.

D's is one of the better bottle-shops and beer bars in the area, and now is also a popular place for food as well.
I hate hot dogs. I can't stand walking down the 3500-3600 blocks of Butler Street because of the stink that wafts out of Frankie's.

If you're referring to me... I don't say this out loud too often for fear that I will end up swinging from a lamp post... but the idea of a Chicago-style hot dog makes me want to hurl. I like the meat itself of a good Chicago dog (usually Vienna Beef), but as for the toppings... just give me mustard and onions, and maybe *gasp!* ketchup and call it a day. But I have to be careful about the ketchup. If I'm seen putting ketchup on a dog around here I'll be stuffed into a circus cannon and shot out of town.

Yeah, that would be a problem. They probably sell more of everything else total than hot dogs these days, but the hot dogs are still pretty popular.

Ok, cheerleader alert.

I had biz on Mt. Washington today, met a guy there from DC. We had lunch than walked to one of the overlooks, Hey, is this why they call this street Grandview?

Boy, am I dumb, never thought of that.

The city looks great today.

And for the record, gastropubs never have good wings. I miss Smartie Artie's.

Frankie's is awesome. Total dive with questionable food and beer. But, the atmosphere is worth it.

What all do they put in the Chicago hot dogs?

Incidentally, not a rip on Chicago, as it's a great city. But I had no idea they had Chicago-style hot dogs. If its anything like the pizza...sounds fattening!!

I always felt that Chicago-style pizza and maybe the Chicago-style hot dogs as well...are just filled with excessive calories. I always have the image of the Saturday Night Live skits with all the large-sized Chicago Bears fans.
