Default How often do you use Rt43 Mon-Fayette Expressway?

Just wondering how much use this billion dollar marvel gets. I assume the traffic between Uniontown and West Mifflin is heavy. Must shave at least 10 mins from the commute on old Rt.51, right?

Heavy traffic? Heck, most times you could play basketball on the Brownsville to Uniontown section and not get bothered by the traffic. 95 cents saves you roughly five minutes vs traveling old route 40. The other section from California to Large? Don't think I've used it a dozen times since it opened.

I use it maybe 5 times a month. I live in Clairton (where Rt. 43 ends), and I work in California; so you think that taking it would make sense. But the toll is pricey ($2.20 one way...and NO, I am not interested in an Easy Pass), and it only shaves about 10 min off the "free" way to go...which is to take Rt. 51 to I-70...then go up through Speers/Coal City/etc. and get to California that way. So I'll hop on it if I am running late in the morning.

When I take it though, it is very empty. Maybe that is why the toll is so freakin' high!

I have been driving on Route 88 (Library Road) and have also noticed this roadway while on the "T" from South Hills towards the city..........it looks to be a large highway that I've never seen anyone driving on, is this the highway you are speaking about, or can you tell me what it is I've seen?

That is certainly very close to it and 43 is the only large highway around, so that's probably it. I didn't know you could see it from the T though, but 43 does cut right past South Park, Finleyville, and Library on its way to connect with rt 51. Try and use it sometime, that's over a billion dollars of your tax dollars at work.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's near Overbrook where I saw it on the "T".
I've thought it was an uncompleted highway both times I've seen it while driving.

Never. And I pray they don't end up blowing the $4.2 billion (surely more in truth) to drive it through the East End where I live.

We drove it for the first time coming back from Deep Creek Lake a couple weeks ago. We were the only car for miles. This road will never be finished into Pittsburgh in our lifetime. What a waste of millions of tons of concrete. I did like the express E-Z Pass lane, which I used, but there was so little traffic it didn't make sense.

To put it simply, there is so little traffic on it that when my brother uses it to go out to Cal U, he goes at least 80 on the road and never gets any problems but also gets passed up

nannyval is on a distinguished road
We use it often to visit family in North Belle Vernon. We recently found an alternatie route because in order to get to 43 from East Pittsburgh we spent alot of time on 51 which was always slow going. But I can attest that we were more often than not one of maybe 3 other cars on 43. It was kind of nice because there was absolutely NO traffic and therefore the fastest part of our trip however one time our car gave us trouble and the prospect of being stranded out there was daunting. We have since found that the turnpike, while a longer distance, is a shorter trip and costs us the same.
