Well, it's nice for what it is, which is a quiet residential area with a tiny business district. If you need to be able to walk everywhere (besides Riverview Park, one of Pittsburgh's biggest and IMO best), other neighborhoods might be better. If you want an affordable view from close to Pittsburgh's highest point, it might be for you. Bellvue is a little grittier, but has more amenities. Crafton seems like a nice small town.

Good luck to you and your potential employment. Pgh has its flaws and warts like all towns, but overall a pretty good area.

1) WHERE IS THIS? This looks cool - photo #1.
2) This Irish Pub looks serious old style, where I can't help but think something really cool is going on inside. Anyone been in there before?
3) I love the way the houses stagger up the hillside! - photo #3.

Those are great photos! I have questions about locations of some, but there are so many I'll have to go back later and get the number of each. And for all the talk here about dowdy Pittsburgh fashion, the people shots showed people not in sweats or Steelers gear (and a couple of nice-looking women in dresses ), and the one sports jersey I saw was for Carolina!

Thanks! I thought that might be SS Slopes, from what I've seen so far and know about it.

I second that.

Amazing! Don't ask me why but in addition to Pittsburgh I have now also been considering Phillipsburg, NJ, and Pittsburgh blows that town out of the water! My only "con" is that the dense tangle of overhead power lines really helps to detract from the otherwise stunning old-World charm that Pittsburgh is famous for. I know digging up all of the sidewalks to move utilities underground city-wide wouldn't be fiscally feasible, but as soon as I imagined what those images would look like without the web of power lines everywhere I got even more homesick for Pittsburgh---a city I've never even lived in!

Excellent work! You've captured the essence of the city. Why do so many "yinzers" put down such a gorgeous city? It will only take six months of living in suburban hell in the Sunbelt amongst cul-de-sacs and big-box stores to really make you miss walking down the street from your brick rowhome to pick up a coffee and to hit up the "Giant Iggle."

Well, as they say in Montana, and the West of Ireland, and probably many other places, you can't eat the scenery. If you saw your livelihood go down the drain in the steel bust, or saw your kids move away to exotic locations out west or south, you might get sour too. So, other factors are probably involved.

Pride of place is an interesting phenomenon. In San Franscisco or Paris, for instance, it borders on fanaticism. People have a somewhat inflated view of the city's greatness. Other cities have a lower self-esteem, that is equally off-mark.

Then again, folks are always restless and a bit disatisfied. That, in itself, is both a good and a bad thing. The funny thing is not too many people travel enough to see different places and learn what they truly like and dislike.
