One thing that really surprised me during the first couple of visits to Pittsburgh was the number of row homes that are still in existence. Aside from NYC, Philly, Boston and probably Baltimore, I can't think of too many other cities that have have a substantial number. Providence may have a few but I know that Hartford leveled all but a small handful which seem to be left in one or two neighborhoods.

That was really enjoyable. I feel that Pittsburgh is best experience in the streets of the neighborhoods - away from downtown, away from the business districts...where one can can truly see the diversity of architecture and the topography of the city.

Among bigger cities, DC still has a ton of rows. Pittsburgh has probably lost 40% of it's rows since the end of WW2, with literally thousands of row homes being razed in both the Hill District, and the North Side, but we still have many thousands left, though nowhere near what the big four (DC, NY, Philly, and Baltimore) have.

Great set, thanks!

There are many excellent pictures of all sorts, but I particularly appreciate how you capture from both close and far the organic jumble of our historic neighborhoods as they spill up and down hills, around rivers, and so forth. There is a beauty to that effect which just can't be duplicated without the same historical process, and you really captured its essence.

Oh, and you have a picture of my friends' house in the Mexican War Streets. It's become quite the tourist attraction!
