???WTF???The U.K. didn't have slavery? Read more world history. The U.K. maintained slavery in Jamaica, Trinidad/Tobago and a number of other Caribbean Islands. The descendants of those slaves are the blacks that live in British ghettoes now. JUST as the blacks that live in American ghettoes are the descendants of the former slaves in the American slave states. No difference. FAIL thread.

I thought the sarcasm was self-explanitory. Guess I should have made it clearer. The history of slavery and "oppression" is the common point of contention whenever the similar comparison is made about crime rates by race in this country.
Let's not act like because there was no slavery or dejure segregation, minorities were welcomed in Britain with open arms. Britain has the same problem that a few other countries have. They took in lots of guest workers whom they had no intention of integrating into society. People of course weren't just going to up and go home after their work, and that's when the friction began. Same situation in France with their Muslim population.
While most British Caribbean islands are relatively crime free, Bermuda has an increasing crime problem. It's so bad that they are "importing" police from the mainland UK and the other British overseas territories. I believe the island has the highest proportion of police officers to residents in the world.
The Bermuda Police Service has gone from 95 officers in 1960 to about 500 today. For a population of only about 65,000.
We know in the U.S that Blacks are 12% of the pop. but responcible for over half the violent crime (astounding - how much does the White majority actually commit?) We can blame slavery, racism, blah blah for Blacks committing the majority of murder and such but in the U.K who is to blame?
Is there any area where a Black minority is not responsible for a disproportional amount of violent crime?
Since the laws against violent crime have a disparate impact on that group, one can only conclude they are racist attacks and must, therefore, be abolished. Simply put, murder and assault must be made legal in order to quite "victimizing" that small segment of the population.
I see a very strong association between some of these problems like gang behavior and violent crime and joblessness. For example, if you look at a recent longitudinal study conducted by my colleague at the University of Colorado -- we are doing a book together -- Delbert Elliot. He found, for example, that by the time white males and black males reached the late 20s, the violent crime ratio is 4 to 1 -- 4 black to 1 white. Much higher violent crime rate among black males. However, when he controlled for employment, there was no significant difference in the violent crime rate between white males and black males. No significant difference.
Jobs are a part of the solution. With too many Blacks unemployed they resort to various street activities to make money and with so many unemployed they end up spending way too much time in the streets. Jobs provide legal money/skills and they break up the amount of time these guys spend hanging in the streets and all that can come with that. What Blacks need is a big increase in Black business ownership in both the U.S and abroad.
Why are people even giving this thread respectful input. It may have been a valid question if the op was truly looking for answers and input, however when someone has a pattern of posting racist comments and making idiotic statements, I believe the agenda id one of mainly attempting to create conflict and strife and to spread silly backward thinking drivel that the "wn" attempt to push off as fact.

easier access to handouts (food stamps, subsidized housing, etc), greater ease in building gangs and defending ones dilapidated neighborhood and turf.
furthermore, most blacks seem to expect the government to provide everything to them which can be done easier in urban areas.
They want nothing to do with Whites except when it comes to our technology, advancements, etc. What's weird is many Blacks don't realize the tribal societies they would be living if it wasn't for the white people they hate.
how would South Africa look if it didn't have a history of White immigration and leadership?
Was there a wheel, written language, etc before Whites arrived? Both the Xhosa and the Zulu were still living tribal societies and in the case of the Zulu very brutal.

This may be less of a problem in European countries that are more homogenous(white) because the issue of racial discrimination and the role it plays in affecting Black progress is less of an issue. I think England has more Blacks than the Scandinavian countries. We can assume that discrimination against Blacks is part of the problem with Blacks finding jobs in England.
