I'm not certain how this pertains to my point about the traditional link of marriage to a religious sacrement.
If you wish to update the tax code so that civil unions get the same contractual legal benefits as marriage, fine, do it. But leave marriage (a.k.a. "holy matromony") and the sanctity of that holy union of marriage before God alone....one man, one woman.
Be careful of what you wish for...
I have nothing against gays, but I think country celebrity, Dolly Parton, made the best comment about the theme of same sex marriage:
"Why should heterosexuals be the only ones to find out what hell marriage can be."
Don't take my word for it, ask some married (and divorced) people.
lol! I'm no country music fan, but I love Dolly.
I've been with my partner for 14 years and we have two kids. I know very well the ups and downs. Really, I'm living a heterosexual lifestyle
If we ban gay marriage, why don't we go all the way and jail adulterers and ban strip clubs? After all, these are forms of perversion, right?
I'm sure many of these people would be very happy to ban strip clubs and pornography. The concepts of freedom and liberty for all mean nothing to them.
does that mean people will have a more favorable opinion about bush now? While obama has said on the record that he's not in favor of gay marriage, "bush's team" is obviously trying to help gay people. Add to that all of the work bush did to combat aids. Maybe a thank you is in order instead of the usual hatred.

Huh? What does Bush have to do with this? If you're referring to Ted Olson, he acted on his own in taking this case. It had absolutely nothing to do with George Bush.
