Social Security was created by FDR back in the 1930's before most of us were even born. Harry Reid says it is a "promise" made by the govt that MUST be honored. The program was sold to the voters as a benefit, but when challenged in the Supreme Court, FDR's team came clean and said it was in fact a "tax" and thus Constitutional.

I believe that ALL govt programs should have a sunset date and should have to be RE-AUTHORIZED by the current generation. Why should your children and grandchildren be held hostage to a program that they had no say in creating?

Your title is misleading. It implies more than just your question.

But, no. Don't hold your breath for EITHER party or ANY politician to touch Social Security. They'll blather and bark about "privatizing" it, but won't actually DO it because they fear the wrath of the Boomers. And, justifiably so.

Like their arguing over abortion, it's just noise to fool you into voting for them, not a policy they'll actually pursue once in office.

Wait a minute! Didn't the title of this thread begin with the word "Will," rather than "Should?"

Did I mis-read it, or did the OP change it? If so, how?

Even factoring in the boomers and their SS benefits, SS is projected to be solvent through 2035. After that, many boomers will be dead and there will be more people paying into the system than receiving benefits. Those who keep targeting SS are playing "chicken little" politics. Currently to hear many tell it, the main problems and villians in America are poor brown people from south of the border, single moms on welfare, seniors on fixed income receiving SS and social progressives who keep funding the programs. Nobody in this group mention the looting of the country by banks and corporations or the continued flight of corporations to foreign lands at the expense of the American, working middle class.

Leave Social Security alone!!!!!! It does you no harm and helps 42 million seniors live independant lives and not be a burden to their children.

Socialist Insecurity was and is insurance for the bankrupted Federal government - not the "contributors" duly enumerated. All entitlements are synonymous with charity and are at the discretion of Congress.

Why SocSec won't be dismantled is because without the 300 million "human resources" pledged as collateral, and obligated on the debt, those worthless notes (dollar bills) cease to be "legal tender".

Of course, the law does not compel Americans to enroll, nor is there any law that punishes any American who does not participate in SocSec. It is 100% voluntary servitude - and thus by compact - sidesteps the USCON.

The day that 51% withdraw consent, is the day that the regime collapses, the "dollar bill" is void, the "public debt" is eliminated (annoying the creditors, for sure). And that won't be pleasant, truth be told.

I suppose we could have hundreds of thousands of Americans living in the streets. I'm sure that would be much cheaper to deal with too.

/sarcasm off

Since 1933, no dollars have circulated. Dollar bills (12 USC Sec 411) are IOUs, to be redeemed in real dollars. Except that Congress repudiated that promise in 1933.

So "what" is in the "Trust Fund"?
Worthless notes... and more IOUs denominated in worthless notes. (Re-hypothecated debt)

How are those notes "legal tender"?
Obligated parties are required to accept their own IOUs in lieu of real money. We know the U.S. government must accept their own IOUs, defined in 12 USC Sec.411. But what about the private people?

Read the Federal Insurance Contribution Act of 1935.
Or consider this semantic test:
When you buy "car insurance" what are you insuring?
When you buy "house insurance" what are you insuring?
When you buy "Federal insurance" what are you insuring?
[D'oh!]

Don't believe me - write a polite letter to your "representative" and ask if YOU have a property right to entitlements. (You would if they were a contracted benefit).
Their reply to me was that entitlements are synonymous with GIFTS *(charity) from the public treasury, and are at the sole discretion of Congress. And no, we do not have a property right to them.

What you may not realize is that all participants surrendered their birthright to absolutely own private property, in exchange for access to charity... and a steep drop in legal status to pauper at law. (FDR abolished the Pauper's Oath after 1935.)

SocSec is the most evil thing Congress has done to the American people - tricking Americans into enslaving themselves and their children, just to escape the consequences of their folly, contracting with usurers.

They would be taken care of by their friends and relatives like the day BEFORE the program was passed.
