Well, maybe some of these costs are unnecessary? Maybe the president should decide against going to the Gandhi museum if it means a one kilometer bomb-proof tunnel has to be built to accommodate his whims?

This SHOULD put this story in the trash where it belongs, but I doubt even the truth will saw the Obamaphobes:

From Snopes, (which a lot people think is left-leaning)

snopes.com: President Obama's Asian Trip - $200 Million per Day?

From TruthorFiction (which a lot of people believe is right-leaning)

Costly Presidential Trip To India-Truth! & Fiction!

From Fact Check (which is Dick Cheney's favorite source)

Trip to Mumbai | FactCheck.org

Any questions?

Haha - I'm sure a few web sites pointing out that the claims are "highly doubtful" and "unproven" will put the story to rest.

Debunking the myth: The cost of Obama's trip to Asia - CNN.com

I admit, that even I started to believe this story, since it was being repeated so many times in different places.

Funny how one quote from an anonymous India minister can be blown up so large.

Again, just a general denial, but no figure to contradict the story. Why not give us a ballpark figure?

Snopes and Factcheck; All they've done is repeat the WH denials of "wildly inflated" numbers. That's not a debunking of anything.

well Prudi, told Akhbar that Soon Li told him that Liam told her that Rupert said that Becky Ann heard from Shanequa that it would cost $2000 per day. Somewhere along the lines someone added some additional zeros.

Blogs and headlines don't need fact-checkers. The job, the damage, gets done in an instant.

Fox is good with this and it's something I've complained about on here forever. They know their readers aren't exactly readers, so they put the noise up at the top under misleading headlines. Then whatever facts they'll admit to they run far below the fold. But it doesn't matter because the "reader" only go as far as the head and the first couple of paragraphs. Et voila, the damage is done, mission accomplished.

You're probably right. The right-wing echo chamber doesn't care about veracity, and they've got the figure installed in enough minds. Mission accomplished, another propaganda victory - nice job.
