I agree that the figure of $200 million per day seemeds inflated to me, at first.

However, the more I have read about this, the more I wonder. One report on the radio said 40 airplanes were part of the entourage, to carry some 2,000 people (many arrived weeks earlier as part of the set up). The Taj Mahal hotel fully booked up, from top to bottom. Surrounding buildings searched and guarded. the Navy called in to provide support (see link above posting).

The more I read, the more I believe this is obviously the most expensive Presidential trip in history. I bet we could have gotten all the heads of state to this upcoming meeting to come over here if we offered them, say, a million bucks each, and find your own food and lodging.

I am fully in favor of keeping our President safe, regardless of whom it is. However, maybe we should look into this 'video conferencing' which is so popular nowdays. I also understand that the 'telephone conference call' is still popular.

I seem to recall that when President Nixon visited China, he went over in Air Force One, plus one or two jets, and that was pretty much it.

So, any confirmation beyond an unnamed Indian official yet?

No. Nothing yet. Everything else I've seen is still based upon that original anonymous Indian state official.

But, I did find this in today's New York Times:

"...the visit by the president, with more than 200 American executives in tow..."

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/11/05/bu...&nl=&emc=aua22

For the benefit of those who are unsure about their numbers..that's two HUNDRED, not two THOUSAND.

The actual numbers will not be released for security reasons. However, a little perspective:

"For example, the entire U.S. war effort in Afghanistan currently costs less than that — about $5.7 billion per month, according to the Congressional Research Service, or roughly $190 million per day. How could a peaceful state visit cost more than a war?"

Stop trying to convince right-wingers, no matter what is reported they will always believe 2000 and $200 million a day. Plus they will always believe a questionable source as long as that source harps on our president.

It's not like Obama is going by himself with 200 executives.
That article alone doesn't give the total..just that 200 executives are going too.

Doesn't even have the courage to stay home and face the music. Yet you still blindly follow this fool. for you.
Well, he clearly heard the people ask for a more frugal government.
