The prevailing mentality I’ve seen on CD is cut taxes for the rich and cut spending on the poor.

Call off the War on Drugs and stop rebuilding mosques all over the world.
Stop giving countries money for guns and bombs.

That should provide enough to take better care of the poor.

What's up with that?

What's up with poverty is that is there have been significant improvements in the nations poverty level in the past 50 years.

In 1959 there were about 176.557 million people in the United States and about 39.490 million were below the poverty level or 22.4%.

In 2009 there were about 303.820 million people and about 43.43.569 million people below the povertry level or 14.3%. The years with the lowest poverrty levels were 1973 and 2000 with both at 11.3%.

Poverty has steadily increased in the United States since 2001.

Bush 43
Americans Below The Poverty Level
2001 - 32.907 million 2008 - 39.829 million - increase 21.04%

Overall Population Growth
2001 - 281.475 million 2008 - 301.041 million - increase 6.95%

During the Bush 43 Administration poverty INCREASED three times faster than rate of population growth.

They pay some sales tax (even their food-related sales tax is written off if they have EBT) and they pay some fees to maintain a driver's license and car registration, if they have a vehicle. They might pay gas tax not to mention cigarette and alcohol taxes (hopefully not). That's abut it.
I guess you never invested in real estate. In order for a investor to clear a profit on his or her rental property the property tax cost are factored into the rental price.

"People" who think like this? Why attack the person? Why not just disagree with the idea?

You do have that "right" to pick and choose with your own private money. However, if that was our entire safety net, a lot of people would be left on the streets to die. That's why we need tax supported services as well.

Of course we all can disdain the folks who "game" us, and I also don't care for those with an "entitlement mentality", and worst of all is those people who take our hard earned money and give it to those who don't work hard, you know, the banksters that our government just bailed out, I don't blame you for hating on their entitlement mentality at all, maybe some day they'll also stop gaming us for those tax dollars that their friends in government have so willingly bestowed on them.......

This is a silly thread. Most Americans DO NOT hate the poor, most families have the poor related to them.

My FIL and his wife were on medicade for years. We helped them get services and they were helped. I think my MIL got so many health services it would have equaled a million dollars on the free market. She had every operation you could think of.

Most families see poor in their families so no one hates them.

That's NOT what you said. You said, "Is there any reason why one individual should have a billion dollars?". Then you went on and on on how those that have the money should be forced to give it to those you feel should have it. That's not help, that's stealing.
