I say Merry Christmas to everyone, just like I say "Good Morning, Good Afternoon and Goodnight"
It is what it is.
I don't force other people to say it back to me (although most say "you too!") or to even acknowledge that I said it. I've never had anyone spit in my face for wishing them a merry christmas. I don't think anyone really cares, some people are just apprecitaive of a smile and a kind word, even if they don't celebrate that particular holiday.

My grandmother used to collect antique greeting cards. Most of her collection was from the 19th century and I'd say that a good 75-80% of them said either "Season's Greetings" or "Happy Holidays" or even "Holiday Greetings". It was a rare card indeed that even mentioned Christmas. The point being that neither phrase is 'new' and weren't started as some kind of conspiracy to 'wipe out Christmas.'
Me and my family don't currently attend any church, but we know what the season is about. It's still CHRISTmas to us. I cannot stand season's greetings or happy holiday's. IT'S CHRISTMAS!!! I am so sick and tired of the minority in this country trying to change everything. For the people who don't celebrate Christmas...lock yourselves in the house until December 26th.
The midwinter holiday is thousands of years older than xmas.
Does every calendar say Dec. 25th is Christmas or does it say something else?

Hey, you're right...I have Christmas cards from the 20's and 30's....and "Merry Christmas" is rare...never noticed that before ...
But I bet the "They're Stealing Our Holiday" folks won't admit that it's been around for a while....

The time from the last week in November until Jan 2 is considered the HOLIDAYS- or the HOLIDAY SEASON. The day of Dec 25th is CHRISTMAS and it is one of three HOLIDAYS that occur during the HOLIDAY season. Therefore the only days that MERRY CHRISTMAS should really be used are on Dec 25h- maybe Dec 24. When you say HAPPY THANKSGIVING, you say it on THANKSGIVING or the day before. Same with HAPPY NEW YEAR which is usually said the day before, of or on New Years Day Jan 1. The rest of the time, it is more appropriate to say HAPPY HOLIDAYS or SEASON'S GREETINGS.
BTW There is nothing all that secular about HOLIDAYS because the word is the marriage of the words HOLY DAYS.
