Me and my family don't currently attend any church, but we know what the season is about. It's still CHRISTmas to us. I cannot stand season's greetings or happy holiday's. IT'S CHRISTMAS!!! I am so sick and tired of the minority in this country trying to change everything. For the people who don't celebrate Christmas...lock yourselves in the house until December 26th.
Indeed......to each his own , but in our family we have always made Christ the focal point of Christmas, much to our amusement , some people are aghast when the find out we never played the santa clause game with our kids. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ!

Actually it is WINTER SOLSTICE (the shortest day of the year and the start of winter) if you want to be technical about it. They just put Jesus' birthday on that day because somebody thought that a holiday with bright lights and decorations would keep people from becoming depressed from winter.

Who cares. No rush hour!

Winter solstice falls on the 21st or the 22nd of December. If you want to get technical about it. Not the 25th.

Fun how? I got a good cross-section of replies. It seems people feel strongly about this issue.

Technically they put it there because Pagans were celebrating Yule and they thought it would be easier to convert everyone. Half my family is Scottish Pagan and trust me... you do NOT want to tell them to stop their feasts and partying So, they decided that Jesus' birthday was during the same time as the Pagan celebrations of mid-winter and call the pagans Christians.

It was nothing more than a transition.

Does every calendar say Chanukah December 2 - December 10 or does it say "pre-Christmas"?
