Well, you'd better pray that the government does MORE. And perhaps you might do well to focus less on the "welfare class" and take a look at the bigger picture.
I am looking at the bigger picture. We're sinking under the weight of supporting a welfare class that's reproducing at a rate of 3 times that of those who pay to support them.
Last summer my husband (who has a degree in agriculture) spent three months thinning and picking peaches for a local orchard. Sadly, they could not get to many of the trees because there were not enough workers. My husband said that the orchard owner cannot find people who WANT TO WORK. I assure you, there are plenty of jobs out there available to people who want to do something beside hold a remote control.

Do peach trees grow everywhere in our country? I have never seen a peach tree where I live.
BTW, your husband should get a real job in which he uses his degree!
Reread my post. Reading is fundamental.
It's about what happens when the government runs out of money to support those who are not supporting themselves.
Nope. I can say the demand for cheaper products grew because the excessive taxes paid to support the non-productive are taking too big of a bite out of taxpayers' income.
Cause and effect. That's what happens when you rob Peter to pay Paul.
The demand for cheaper products grew because of excessive taxes being taken to pay for social programs!! ROTFLMAO Now that's really funny.
So what has happened to those imported cars of yesteryear? They're more expensive now and there's still a huge demand. When they first started being competitive with US made cars, they were CHEAPER but better cars in order to gain customers!! What is capitalism anyway? A competitive market place!
People looking for cheaper products in the 1960s and 1970s because of taxes......come on......."smart" shoppers are always looking for cheaper and better products.
CLEARLY you did not read the article posted with those photos and are just assuming something that is very wrong!
Those photos of a decaying Detroit have nothing to do with the "welfare class
Really? Then why isn't all the tax revenue they're collecting paying to maintain the public facilities shown in the photos?
Oh wait... they're not collecting enough tax revenue to support that. Too many people; too few paying taxes. Not enough tax revenue to support the public facilities = the ruins we see in the photos.

Focusing on a "welfare class" is a very narrow focus. You're not looking at the big picture. What's up with that narrow focus anyway? Is it racially motivated?
The decay is a cost OF CAPITALISM. ...the auso industry started declining in the 1960s and 1970 because of competition from LOWER PRICED cars from Japan, etc., and a rise in OIL PRICES!!
How hard is it for you to understand that the productive class is OVERtaxed, necessitating the demand for lower prices, thereby causing the decline of the expensive (read: union) American auto industry. Get a clue.

If you had bothered to read the article you wouldn't need to ask that question. And, btw, those were not all public facilities in those photos. The problem had to do with something called "white flight" and leaving the inner city. That's what it was all about. that all started with the declining auto industry.

Hmmmm... not too hard to see what's going on if you're intellectually honest enough to take a look at it. What part of those on public assistance are reproducing at a rate of 3 times that of those who are paying to support them do you not understand?

Epic FAIL. Read the article. You originally posted the link. And you have managed to come to a profoundly wrong conclusion.

Posting a bunch of photos of a decaying Detroit does not have anything to do with reproducing at a rate of 3 times that of other people in our society. Again, epic fail.
