I guess you'd be in favor of the Obituary Channel. Reporting on all deaths, all the time.

Do you know how many people die in a day?

I don't. I know it is a lot.

Their lives have 'just as much meaning' as well

You don't think a national political assassination attempt is different from everyday local crime? I mean, it made headlines around the world.

That's what I keep saying, but it's not getting through . . .

You can always change the channel.

Maybe you could catch a rerun of Friends.

Some posts here seem kind of brutal like post number 79. I care since she seems like a nice lady and did nothing to deserve this but the cable news channels do go overboard on many things though like the anti gun stuff now.

Really? I did. I believe one more was released.

I care deeply about her welfare, as well as the others who were injured. Like the others, I want to hear the updates. They have not left my mind and will not until they are all safely home.

I think what most of us see in the question is someone who is saying that they don't care about another person's misfortune, regardless of whether you like them or not. That also is a tragedy.

Just turn the news off for the next two weeks or so and then you won't be subject to it. Issue solved.

Although it was said clumsily by the OP, I think I get what they are saying. Too much info. It could be a screen crawl with only a news story if there is a major change in her condition.
