There are many problems not with just FL but the whole country. FL is doing bad, but the Gov is trying to make it right. So give him a chance. FL has a big burden called illegal immigration. They come over, pay nothing and mooch off of the system. Our federal government sits back and does nothing. The whole country is feeling the ill effects on what Bush started and Obama made much, much worse. But give those who are trying to make things right, a chance.
I don't see how gutting the state and public programs while simultaneously cutting taxes=making things right.

It's why you're not a businessman
Scott was a CEO, he knows to attract businesses, help small businesses and to create jobs.
Apparently Florida has a great governor !

I cant even dignify this with an answer. -shakes head in despair-
What is unusual about a "conservative" handling deficits with tax cuts and reductions in public safety nets? It is, however, unusual IMO to see cuts related to prison, at a time when it has grown into a business-oriented market.
Here in Texas, the "conservative" governor Perry found a way to cut $50 million by eliminating agencies and jobs to address its tens of billions in deficit ($27B over next two years).
former Governor Charlie Crist was granted millions by the native americans to bail out the Florida prison system. Scott is just trying to get the states money back. If anyone should have to suffer it should be the prisoners first.
Scott is doing the exact opposite of California. How will that result in the same mess?
One can only surmise you dont speak with your friends, colleagues, neighbors, read the papers, or get out of Jax much.
If you did, you wouldnt feel the need to ask that question.
NJ, been there for a year with the school budget cuts and already feeling the effects. Due to the cuts, yes on the Local end they have layed off staff however that did not stop the 14% increase in property taxes. There have been massive Police layoffs in quite a few cities, which for many area's is a very ugly situation.
Now a year in with Christie, can't wait to see the new property tax bill that comes out in June.
Just for those of you who don't know the Governor has zero impact on property taxes. They are levied by the local municipalities.
The police layoffs the poster refered to are due to the unions intransigence on accepting benefits cuts, they would prefer layoffs.
NJ has a 2% cap on property tax increases.
