Clearly, it isn’t just a liberal idea to be obsessed with diversity.
Why are all these statues covered with blankets????
Because many progressives don't like a uniform, homogeneous society. I am one of those. I grew up in an all white town. There was one house where asylum seekers were crammed together. But they were not part of society. I am happy I moved away from there. Now I live in a place with lots of Africans, Brazilians and natives mixing in every way, and I love that. That is one of the few reasons I stay in this poor country. I would really miss that.
Progressives also tend to travel more, they get around more and learn to appreciate other cultures, languages, they listen to radio and music from other countries and cultures, they more readily challenge their own culture, etc.
I'm a liberal but I don't really care so much about diversity. What I mean is, if there's diversity, let it be natural. I oppose all racial quotas and Affirmative Action measures. I want the best person to get the job/scholarship. I'm all for different cultures and people of all walk's of life being at a workplace, but only if it's organic. No one benefit's from token racial promotions or hirings. It's unfair to the people passed over and it demeans the person getting the promotion.
Everyone is distrustful of each other all the way down to family relations. Even minorities are distrustful and hateful of each other. It's disgustingly ignorant. Our society has really gone down hill starting probably in 1980 or so.
People are too busy throwing fits and pointing fingers at 8 year old children who get pepper sprayed which is none of our business: when we should be focusing on the broader questions and the big picture with regard to leadership in politics, corporations, and the education system. But most people would rather be armchair critics than to look at their own lives and the big picture.

I guess I'm more puzzled as to why Conservatives view as an OBSESSION people who are comfortable with themselves and others from different cultures. People who are inclusive and tend to view others as equals are OBSESSED? People who value diverse opinions, are open to learning more about other races of people, and are very comfortable living among anyone no matter what race, color, or creed, are OBSESSED? People who are not racist, or bigoted, or racially insensitive are OBSESSED?
What explanation could possibly be sufficient to Conservatives who have this type of warped perception? Diversity is the norm, the ideal, and the reality.
Why does it seem that liberals are so obsessed with diversity, and trying to force it on everyone?
Yes this country is a "melting pot", but forcing us to have diversity has to have some repercussions, right?
Without bigotry, no one needs a liberal.
This solution (Affirmative Action, set-asides, invented rights, judicial legislation) needs an ongoing problem (racism, sexism, homophobia) to justify its continued existence and the special powers it would not otherwise enjoy.
