What we do with someone's remains has very little to do with that person. We do what we do more often for the people still living. In this case, the person who died was a very high-profile person. Treating his remains with respect shows we respect the millions of people who follow the same religion as the person who died. Disrespecting those remains would have reinforced a message this dead person repeatedly asserted: that the United States does not respect Muslims. It's not an endorsement of any religion. It's not a special accord of respect for bin Laden. It's a demonstration that the people of the United States are not barbaric.
Hahahahaha ..... Right ..... we're not barbarians .... we've invaded and destroyed two countries, and bombed a third .... killing literally ten's of thousands of people in order to get Osama "The Boogie Man". We finally kill him ... and because we wrap him in a sheet, have someone say a few words from a book written by a pedophile marauder, and dump his arse into the ocean ... all of a sudden, that makes us humanitarians? Lord almighty .... yeah ... we're decent civilized folks ... not the brightest bulbs in the human chandelier .... but respectful ... as evidenced by the morons amassing around the White House celebrating and chanting like the Redskins just won the Super Bowl.
Clearly there are many barbaric Americans on this forum. However, I firmly believe that the majority of Americans are people who would treat a dead body, even that of an enemy, with respect, and who have the intelligence to understand that doing so is not about according your enemy respect, but according all human life with respect. Like it or not, bin Laden was a human being. That merits that his remains be disposed of with respect.
While you are so focused on the reactions of terrorists, you don't seem to grasp that reactions are responses to actions. Americans had a choice, desecrate a dead body or not. Thank goodness that Americans chose not to be barbaric.
And are you as horrified by those pictures as I am?
Because the horror and repulsion that most Americans feel when presented with those pictures is a testament that we are not barbarians? Some of us may behave in truly horrific ways, but as a people, we do not exhibit such behavior, nor do we endorse it. Ever.

So you would rather not have any glimmer of humanity and being considerate?
Actually, I thought it was a hoax that Bush was able to point the finger at the bogey man so quickly from the start. And wasn't it convenient that he was able to so easily able to use 9/11 to put in motion his plans that were devised with his father's cabinet members long before?
Who REALLY planned the 9/11 strike? I don't think we will know in our lives' time.
So you would rather not have any glimmer of humanity and being considerate?
Did Osama?
Besides guynTexas NEVER said that.
There was NO need for such respect shown a mass murderer...dump him in the ocean fine but no prayers , ..no wrapping in a white sheet(unless it had a pointed hood on it)....who was the demented POC that actually said prayers over Osama?...just another terrorist...
He complained about extending any respect on humanitarian grounds.

You simply don't get it. You don't respect a mass murderer by killing him. It was done to bring an end to his participation in barbarism. What happened next wasn't about him, it was about being respectful. Leave it to Saddam and like to disrespect and dump the enemy even after they are dead.
Exactly what do you want with the body then? Hold it for a while? For what purpose? Do you want to mummify it? Do you want to put it on display somewhere? What do you want with the body?
It's really quite an elementary concept .... especially when dealing with proven, habitual liars ...... it's called preserving the evidence. It's called proof.
Do your research is the rallying cry of those who can't prove their postulation. They shunt you out with a deafening cry of, "Do your research!"" yet never produce research of their own.
Just like glen beck. he's constantly saying that on his show..look it up! do your research! didn't he crow about how many hits some website got after he told his viewers to 'research' some cockamamie scheme he dreamed up?
tee hee
