I seriously doubt people are worried about senior citizens committing fraud, it's the other million+ illegals we are worried about. You are basically giving them voting rights without being a citizen. No wonder libs push this agenda. Plus, there are a lot of ways for them to get their cards. Many nursing homes have buses that will take them to get ID cards.

It's funny, it's the cons who are so opposed to any kind of national ID card, yet so quick to jump on this picture ID for voting issue. When you sign a voter regisitration form, you declare, under penalty of perjury, that the information you have provided is correct.
Huh? Conservatives opposed to national ID cards??? WTH did you get that?

Seriously.

We already have one, it's called a passport.

So anyone out there I'd let your parents know and children who can vote to go get a state issued ID card to vote, I'm all for proving citizenship, it isn't just about the illegals. I wrote this in the past, now down the road your parents will not be able to vote unless they have the state issued ID card.
again & again

Voting rights advocates note that there are large numbers of people who do not have the state-issued photo ID the bill requires. According to a recent University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee study, those without state-issued photo ID who would need to obtain one under the new Voter ID bill include:
* 23 percent of Wisconsinites over the age of 65.
* 17 percent of white men and women.
* 55 percent of African American males and 49 percent of African American women.
* 46 percent of Hispanic men and 53 percent of Hispanic women.
* 78 percent of African American males age 18-24 and 66 percent of African American women age 18-24.

What would this add up to with the whole country?

I seriously question those statistics. You have to have an ID to do almost anything these days. You have to have one to drive. You have to have one to cash a check or open a bank account. I even had to send one to my fricken electric company when I first got electric in this state. You have to have them to buy certain products. You have to have one when you go to the doctor. You have to have one to get a job.

Are you trying to tell us that 78% of black American male youth have NO job at all? Or that they've never driven a car? Or that they've never cashed a check?

I'm not buying that.

You're wrong, because everyone does.

The only people who don't are people who have committed crimes and are fleeing and eluding police, or have outstanding arrest warrants, or have outstanding capias warrants, or owe child support.

A person who owes back child support is not going to apply for a new driver's license or State ID when their current one expires, because their records are flagged and they would be arrested, or forced to pay the back child support they owe.

Criminals and those with outstanding warrants are not going to get a new ID, because they will be arrested.

Everyone else has IDs, because IDs are required for HUD Section 8 housing, food stamps, Medicaid, and all federal and State welfare benefits.

There's also the Salvation Army, Goodwill, Saint Vincent De Paul and dozens and dozens of other private organizations who will get a copy of your birth certificate for free, and get an ID for you for free.

And, if you're on Medicaid, Medicaid will drive you to the office for free at tax-payer expense.

Yes, if you're on Medicaid, your non-medical transportation is covered for free at tax-payer expense.

I know people who use Medicaid non-medical transportation to go to the local casino and gamble once a week.

So, what were you saying?

Good thing she died in 1980, and never had to go to such lengths to prove she was a loyal American. My grandma had family living in town, and they would have helped her to get an ID, I suppose, but many seniors do not have that.
In our state if you don't have a drivers license you can get a state ID card and its free if your on limited finances. If you receive social assistance you have to have a picture ID and they give you one for free if needed. I'm sure Social Security requires one also for services as does a bank or any where you write a check. Ultimately you can show the voter ID card your sent when you register to vote.

Why do you see this as such an unreasonable burden for someone to vote? People lie and voting is a privilege for legal citizens of this country only; so is asking for an ID that shows you are who you say really such a burden?

I don't believe that " a lot of seniors do not have state issued ID cards". You can't function in the modern world with out some kind of legal, state issued, ID card. When my mom was in her 80's, and her ID card expired (she no longer drove), I took her in her wheelchair to the DMV to get her a new ID. She was suffering from mild dementia at the time. But she had a valid, state issued ID.

The idea that if you are over 65, or are a person of color, that means you are so inept, stupid, or hopelessly lazy that you can't get an ID is ridiculous. You cannot function in this society with out an ID, whether you are young or old, black or white, rich or poor.

Crazy, isnt it.
People think 65 is ancient or something. My sister will be 70 next month. She and her husband (73) are retired and out gallivanting around all day.
Go to a Shoney's or Cracker Barrel (or equivalent restaurant) and see if its not packed with gray hairs all day long. Older folks are quite mobile and perfectly capable of getting a state ID, most already have a DL. Same applies to people of color.
