Lamborn even went so far in his original comments to describe the meaning behind the term he used. Is there no room for understanding his intent was not to call the president a Tar baby but touching the issue he's associatied with was akin to touching a "Tar baby".

Jeez Louise; isn't it possible there are some people in the U.S. that interpreted the Uncle Remus stories as exactly what they were; "stories" with Tar Baby being exactly as intended, a moral comparison to someone designing a sticky trap but getting stuck in it themselves.

Back when these stories were written the only sticky substance around was "tar". To depict a villain as really evil, you make the prospective victim/bait a "baby".

Where did he say the president was a tar baby?

He said the situation creates a tar baby, when you touch it you're stuck.

He didn't use it as a noun to describe a person. E.g. The president is a tar-baby.

He used it to describe a SITUATION. Which is according to the definition how the word should be used, to describe a "sticky situation".

Lamborn's office clarified his comment Monday, saying “Congressman Lamborn regrets any misunderstanding. He simply meant to refer to a sticky situation or quagmire,” according to his spokesperson.

No one referred to President Obama as a tar baby. What he said was that working with the president right now is like touching a tar baby. That doing so will get one stuck with him in the minds of the people, associated with the problem and not the solution.

If he said something like... "Dealing with the President and this issue has been like giving birth to a watermelon"...

What then?

I'm sure he has no idea how that term is interpreted in 2011 despite McCain and Romney both being screwed by using the term in recent years.

True feeling always seem to slip out in soundbites.

................Ah that colorful rhetoric of the past. I have no ill feelings against blacks (or any other race for that matter). However, "Song of the South" is a damn good entertaining movie for kids and it is essentially banned in the US for being politically incorrect. It is a product of the times (just like Tom Sawyer) and I am sure that Disney had no intention of upsetting anyone at the time.

The "tar baby" story in "Song of the South" is really funny.

If you think there's any spin there, I can only assume you have not bothered to actually listen to or read what the man said.

You jumped into the man/boy debate...it had nothing to do with you. Either answer or go back to MYOB.

Of course they didn't. They just got the talking points emailed to them this morning.
