I'm not even familar with this commercial but I assume, if it's not a paid actor, it was someone who knew they would be on film and didn't want to look as trashy as you think she should.
I"m not saying people that are poor are supposed to look trashy, hey i'm not in a good situation financially right now at all, probably the worst i've ever been in. My point was the nails that woman had were done professionally, they could of used someone with normal looking nails, these nails were trashy looking no matter what way you put it, with money or without money. Money or no money it's not hard to look decent, she just looked like she had money. It just looked off to me when you're looking to get a gov't phone.

You didn't like the nails. Got it. Besides personal preferance and your own taste there isn't much of a point here.

I dressed nicely when I was eligible for a free cell phone because I was job-searching so I wouldn't have to split $800/month across three people. The only reason I didn't get the phone is cause I was deaf. I wonder if you would have judged me.

lol really? I stopped reading the thread at this point. Yeah, poor people GETTING ALL RICH FROM CELL PHONE GIVEAWAYS.

Give me a break. This is just another baloney issue pot-stirrers cook up to get the mouth-breathers riled up with, like NPR funding.

These phones cost taxpayers a ridiculously tiny amount. And actually, switching this program from landlines to cell phones means that the funds are more likely to actually help poor people rather than rich people. A few years ago, when the Universal Service Fee was only used for landlines, the biggest beneficiaries were rich people with huge ranches out in the west. Since the law requires landline providers to sell phone service to everyone at the same rates, USF funds would be used to subsidize all the infrastructure needed to run a single line out to (eg) Ted Turner's ranch in the middle of nowhere, Montana, so he could pay the same $30/month (or whatever). Poor people in inner cities (where phone service is extremely cheap to provide) were effectively subsidizing Ted Turner.

Good think we got the TOUGH ON POOR PEOPLE crowd here to carry water for a return to the good old days where poor people paid extra so rich people wouldn't have to suffer.

I mean, wow, this is a new low in stupid reasons to hate poor people. Not that they actually have expensive manicures, but that you THINK THEY MIGHT have manicures because an actor in a commercial had one.

It was just an annoying commercial, but i have seen people that claim to be poor with i-phones, mani's, expensive clothes, 5 kids, and what not, so it does happen.

Default You may qualify for a free cell phone from the government...

Like the federal government doesn't hand away enough free services...

In addition to the phone, which comes with voice mail, call waiting and caller ID, you will typically get up to 250 minutes of airtime per month.

Thanks to the FCC-mandated, government-sponsored program, called LifeLine Assistance almost ten million other Americans already participate, and tens of millions more qualify to enroll.

Free Government Cell Phones – Free Cell Phone + 250 min/mon

I guess having a cell phone is another right in America...

But lets cut defense and Medicare spending first
