Part of the problem is that traditionally people went where the jobs were. They pick up stakes and moved to where they could find work. Problem today is that many people own homes that are underwater and can't sell them to move to the areas where they can find work.

Right on!

I was going to touch on that in my post, but decided not to.

My brother had a clogged drain (the clog was somewhere near the main). He called a plumber who fixed it in 5 minutes for $300!!

[that's money!]

Why are they 'always' hiring?

Is the company / physical plant growing?

In my experience, people should beware a company that is 'always' hiring.
There are undoubtedly reasons for that.

That's a really great point! In my small resort town there's always a large add in the local paper touting 60-80 thousand a year selling time shares for a local resort. You'd think if people were making that much money the available jobs would have been scarfed up long ago but the adds been running for 8 years, twice a week, without a break.

I would love to have a manufacturing job, but I don't have the skills to take one so I don't have my nose stuck up in the air .The reality for me in my area is that are no jobs for unskilled workers and with the employment situation the way is they can be very picky in regards to job experience .They have all gone to China .

Unfortunately, its almost impossible to find one that won't rip you off. Much like the auto mechanic or electrician, they will rip you off when given the chance. So my dad always taught me, "make sure you know how to fix your own stuff." Saved me a ton of money.

It is high time people got off their high horse, thinking everyone should be a lawyer or doctor and get back to the real world and earn a living. I would like to see the government cancel all unemployment benefits until there was not a single open job position of any kind. Get out there and do something, to pay your own way, when I see things available, and people still complaining about the lack of jobs I have no sympathy for any of them. People are sorry who think so many jobs are below them, but accepting a government handout is not.
you are so on target----wish i could rep you more than once---and then some people wonder why those from other countries are hired for these jobs

Several potential reasons have been noted in this thread. Another is that there are fewer "vo-tech" schools out there, and the kids who should have been going into vo-tech can't. There is a movement now to increase our skilled non-degreed workers, but it takes time. Like they say, not everyone is cut out for college, and we need plumbers, welders, electricians, etc., too.

No I don't think it's more complicated. It's rather simple. If you want to work get a job.
