CLUE to the SOCIALISTS here: the state of the economy is Not the job of the President, that is an area controlled by business and consumers.

Most of the people complaining about the poor have never tried it. Being poor is not easy or nice. That being said, a person should not have to raise his kids in a car because of circumstances beyond his control. The government, meaning the non poor, should be providing this family a shelter, food, clothes and medical care until they can find enough work to take care of themselves.

I find the attitude that applauds the shysters while condemning an out of work carpenter and his kids to be appalling.

Actually, it's a mixed bag.

The administration shut down drilling in the Gulf for over a year.

The administration is attempting to prevent Boeing from moving its facility.

Thousands of companies had to request government waivers with regards to the enforcement of the new health care rules.

The government gave money to green energy companies and is now trying to get tax payers to foot the job loss benefits.

The best scenario would be minimal regulation with private control of business. The Obama administration is looking for more government control using more and more regulations.

Figure sometime between 2050 and 2060.

The wages of workers in developing countries are on a pace to double about every 10-12 years or so. Right around 2040 American workers will start to be competitive against the rest of the world, and that should pick up over the decade following.

The only real problem is that by then, sub-Saharan Africa will be developed to the level of the developing nations that exist now, so your remaining jobs will be exported there.

Oh, wait a minute...you said "reversed."

This trend doesn't ever get reversed. You're in a Global Economy. That's life, and it sucks for you.

Okay, so you have a dysfunctional society with a pathetic education system that is outrageously expensive, but at least it is unionized.

So what else is new?

No, I don't have a TV.

So, your pathetic school system has failed Mr. Metzger, because he is geographically-challenged and doesn't realize that Florida is not the only State within the United States.

You have freedom of movement in the United States; you are allowed to travel from one State to another, and you don't need a Writ of Manumission or Free Papers, or Travel Documents or anything else (at least not yet).

He can also dial 2-1-1, a free call from any cell-phone or telephone in the US and get hooked up with social services so that he can live in housing instead of truck.

The guy sounds like a real goober.

Are you suggesting US companies can manufacture consumer goods in the US and sell them to consumers in other countries for a profit?

Really?

Show us your math (this should be really, really interesting -- I'd like to see how a Romanian making $2.18/hour can afford to by a Chevy Avalanche SUV for $37,600).

Yes. Coming back from the VA Hospital I usually walk down Jefferson to Short Vine. A lot of BOBs there (Black Owned Businesses). They're all nail salons and hair shops (or maybe shoppes).

It's a HUD Section 8 area.

But they are in his control. He can get shelter anytime he wants to get it, he just has to want to get it. He can also seek work in other areas outside of carpentry, and he can even seek work in other States.

And you'd have to be really, really pathetic not to have friends or family members that cannot take you in, or they'd have to be really, really pathetic for not taking them in.

You know, it's a "free country." You are allowed to share living accommodations with other persons or families.

The *******s and the EPA haven't messed that up yet.

What I'm hearing is that he can go on CraigsList to buy a truck, but he can't go on CraigsList to find a guy with kids in a similar situation to share housing, or a woman with children to share housing, or another person or family to share housing.

He doesn't appear to be able to go on CraigsList to find a job in Oregon or another State either.

Okay, then contact CBS and invite Mr. Metzger and Family to stay with you.

So, what's stopping you?

Times are bad indeed. I'm humbled by the fact that my income has increased 20% year-over-year the past 6 years. I myself have not suffered from recessionary pressures, but I can sympathize with those who have considering that I haven't always had money in my pocket and a steady revenue stream. Most rich people can sympathize with the poor because i'd venture to say that most rich people have at some point been nearly broke themselves. Afterall, this is America, where fortunes were and are built from nothing. I hope things turn around soon. It doesn't look good at all.

Why would America vote in another Republican? That's like appointing a fox to guard a chicken coop.
If Americans would have the good sense to vote in 'another Republican' named Ron Paul, instead of the do-nothing warmonger currently in office, then perhaps we would pull ourselves out of this ever-accelerating economic nose-dive.

Yes I see it day in and day out. There are poor people in America and then there are plenty of people on welfare, food stamps, etc. that don't really need it and should fend for themselves. You wanna see poor drive through the North St. Louis or rural Kentucky. Sorry I don't feel too bad for some family at WalMart that has two kids, dad is unemployed, and mom works at an $8.00/hr job while collecting $600 in food stamps/food cards every month. I just saw this on the news the other night. They were interviewing a bunch of these "40 million Americans on food stamps" families. It was absolutely pathetic and shocking how these people were living and justifying their reliance on food stamps. One couple had a nice Ford Explore, dad had nice clothes, clean shaven, mom had manicured nails. Their apartment had nicer cabinets than the HOUSE THAT I OWN!!!!!!!!!! Their kids had toys etc. The other couple the lady had the latest hair do, and jewelry, and manicured nails again. Kids were all playing with name brand toys, and again their "poor" apartment was very nice with woodgrain cabinets, etc. Hardly "poor" or atleast what I consider poor. I've been in some **** roach infested dumps in my lifetime where kids actually would go hungry, dad was nowhere around, and mom was actually working three jobs. None of this sitting in Walmart parking lot waiting for $600 to be deposited so I can go buy two grocery carts full of food for three people. I don't even buy that much food and I HAVE A FRICKIN JOB! America has become a joke. The government is bailing out the lazy and the rich. Meanwhile the hardworking, incentive driven middle class is getting screwed by all three.

This. ^^ The lack of empathy on this site really depresses me sometimes. I want to believe that most people care about their fellow Americans, but it's hard to believe that reading the vitriol that is aimed at the poor and the unemployed on this board, as though people choose these circumstances. I suspect there are a whole lot of families who are one paycheck away from ending up like this. And of course, it will be their own fault.

Link to some proof? Your entire rant sounds like Ronald Reagan's bogus story about welfare queens driving Cadillacs.

No, if the Big Mac is too greasy it's Obama's fault, and if the fries are cold, it's Bush's fault. If the Big Mac and fries are perfect, and free - I blame Ron Paul.
