This stinks with desperation.....wonder what they will do if someone does not sign or does sign and either doesn't vote OR votes for the other party or does a write in? This is pitiful.

I have no problem with a pledge being taken at the polls, its the "required" part that I dislike about this.

The pledge is unconstitutional, and in my opinion, is a poll tax by another name.

But to answer your question on the "what if they don't...."

"even though it is not enforceable and anybody who breaks the pledge will face no punishment."

From the article listed in the OP.

Many people, such as myself, take our word very literally. If I sign a pledge saying I won't do this, then I won't do that.

However, I rarely, if ever, swear to do anything, all the time. Others, may not be so unlikely to change their minds.

Honestly, its doesn't really serve a purpose, just partisan bull crap. A waste of Virginians money.

The caucuses have every right to try and prevent "mischief" voting from democrats/libs crossing the aisle to push a certain candidate.

I agree....

It wasn't that long ago that a man's word was his bond, that is almost a long lost part of one's character.

Once again The People's Republic of THE EAST COAST.

I keep hearing all the horrors of California (and yes we have our share of loony idiocy) but every completely dogmatically statist idea seems to be coming from those level headed tyrants on the EAST Coast.

I don't do pledges of allegiance or loyalty oaths. I'm not a commie, or a socialist, or a liberal, or a democrat. It's loony liberal commie neocons that give the GOP a bad name.

Edit: The more I think about it the more it seems like another Attack Against Ron Paul. Since Paul is a real Republican (Real Republicans had to change their name to Libertarian or Constitutionalist as the party started sliding left) and real republicans, or libertarians registering as republican in order to vote for Paul in the primaries, would hesitate to sign such. It seems Romney and Paul are the only two on the ballot. As I've said for years, Ron Paul's biggest opposition is the Neocons in the GOP.

I think it is a good thing that the pledge is worthless and not enforceable to stop partisan tyranny. What right do they have when the state is a open primary? People that back this are such hypocrites, the only 2 so far on the ballot are Paul and Romney. Who do you think this pledge helps? Mittens of course, if the tables were turned and it favored Paul you would be against the pledge.

I actually think it's really funny. What it states is:

1) Anyone who signs it with full intention of keeping it will vote for a head of lettuce if there is a {R} next to it.
2) Changing ones mind is a sign of lack of integrity or loyalty to the party.
3) It's done to keep "mischief voting democrats" from influencing the primary because they are the only ones with integrity enough not to sign something they won't keep even if there is no penalties in doing so. Which isn't really an insult.

It's funny that a party that champions key ideals of freedom, integrity, responsibility, and self determination is taking pages from loyalty oaths found in dictatorial regimes or during the McCarthyism era. With pledges like these you might as well check your name off as a registered republican, and give your votes for them to do as they wish
